This game will wow you when you first start up a game. The atmosphere and setting is amazing and perfectly executed. Then, you'll probably start to realize slowly that there isn't really any more to the game other than building tents and collecting resources, upgrades are painfully boring incremental modifiers +10% this or that and all the new buildings you can research are more efficient versions of the starting ones. Feels like it could have been so much more.
These games were a very important part of my childhood and playing these enhanced editions is like going back to the Mona Lisa to find somebody has covered it in crayon. The worst crime however is that it's no longer able to get access to the original authentic experience without buying this excuse for a cash grab. This is pure exploitation of the fan base and I think I'd rather never play the game again than give them a cent.
Beamdog unfortunately have treated the original games with very little respect, even going so far as to remove the original authentic experiences from this storefront. This goes against the spirit of GOG and I'm very surprised they allowed it in the first place.
The base game is very weak and derivative, though has its moments as long as you turn off the voice acting. Adding what should have been a toggle in a menu as a micro-transaction is enough to make sure I never invest in another of this studio's products ever again.
