Grim Dawn - Loyalist Item Pack #2

Cosmetic armor and/or a tip to Crate

Your opinion of this DLC largely depends on how you view it. On its own merits, it's $9 for 6 sets of cosmetic armor, with 2 of those 6 sets being reskins (White/Dark Wizard, Silver/Black Knight), and a companion pet. So 4 unique sets, 2 reskins, and a pet. It's a terrible value, and carries on the tradition of overpriced cosmetic DLC introduced by Bethesda's Horse Armor back in 2006. Or you can view it as a $9 tip to Crate Entertainment for making Grim Dawn, in exchange for which you get some cosmetic armor. If you love Grim Dawn so much that you want to give Crate a tip for making it, and have already purchased all the DLC that actually add playable content, this DLC is a great way to do so.

Slay the Spire

Amazing! This is my desert island game!

I don't like roguelikes, but I love Slay the Spire! I have close to 300 hours in StS on Steam, and it's a game I might never tire of. I love the gameplay loop, everything is a puzzle. Every run asks you to build a deck capable of beating the game's challenges based on what cards you're offered and what relics you get, and every battle asks you to play your cards strategically. Each class feels really different, and places different demands on you. There's a huge learning curve, and while you may get lucky and win your very first game (as I did), I feel like I'm still learning after dozens and dozens of runs. I used to have to rest all the time as Silent, and feel like I had to get lucky to win, and now I rarely rest and win 90+% of my low Ascension runs. What really made the game click, and greatly improved my success rate, is learning that I shouldn't build towards an archetype and should instead build towards the challenges. In Act 1 it's early attacks to deal with Gremlin Knob, in Act 2 it's AoE and scaling, and in Act 3 it's shoring up my deck and/or dealing with Raptormancer. Sometimes I end up with an archetype deck, but most of the time I don't. Once I felt like my deck was pretty weak because I didn't get any of the cards I normally look for, then realized that I had gone through all of Act 2 without taking any damage. Slay the Spire is amazing and incredibly well designed. Even after hundreds of hours, I'm still excited for each new run. The only downside is that it's very addictive, and every time I tell myself that I'll just play for 10-20 minutes, I end up getting hooked and "just one more turn"-ing myself until I've finished the 90 minute run.

Undertale

Gets better and better the more you play

Don't read about this game, avoid looking anything up, just take a leap of faith and play it. Still reading? Well, let me tell you about my experience. Undertale is an unusual RPG that started out interesting but slow, very slow, leaving me thinking, "This is what all the hype is about?" Then it got better and more interesting. Then it kept getting better and more interesting. It became more and more fun. It made me laugh, as so few games manage to do. By the time I finished the game, I was ready for another playthrough. I rarely replay a game, but I couldn't wait to do so with Undertale. My second playthrough made me appreciate just how clever this game is. It surprised me with how well the combat mechanics work with the story, and visa versa. It surprised me with how much more there was to the game than I had initially realized. I liked Undertale after my first playthrough. I loved it after my second.
