This game is an absolute blast! The controls are standard issue FPS with silky, accurate, movement. The environment is stunning, gigantic, steampunk, with rich lighting. The UI is difficult to learn but worth the time. I ran it on a GeForce 1050 Ti at about a 60 frame rate. A definite buy for FPS fanboys, especially when on sale.
This is a solid FPS but could be a lot better. As it is, it's buggy, has limited save slots, the graphics are at times desaturated and harsh, and the menus are overly complex. The hacking mini-games are annoying and were done better in various James Bond 007 releases. The story is preachy with cut scenes being longer and more serious than any game needs. But the concept is original and the controls are as good as they get. If DEMD were optimized and emphasized fun over drama, it'd be a perfect FPS. Until recently, the Far Cry series got it exactly right and this title should have done the same.
This is a cool little track and road racer but with limited display options. However, if one installs the mod ENB and Widescreen for FlatOut 1 and sets the view to 1 in the game's config file, it'll play with improved graphics, at 1920 x 1080, and in first person similar to bumper or hood view in other titles like Need for Speed ProStreet.
In addition to the Doom graphics, this can hardly be considered an Elder Scrolls title as fans know it. Long swords and magicka alongside filing cabinets and push button control panels? I gave up after 2 hours of play. Not recommended even for free.
If you haven't played Skyrim then you will probably enjoy Oblivion. It is fun while its successor is serious and its art design is an evolution of the previous The Elder Scrolls titles. But the small environment diminishes the sense of wonder and adventure. For example, one quest takes the player to a castle near the Skyrim border. Atop the mountain, one can look down upon the Imperial City as though it is a couple of miles away. It's like the Imperial Province is hardly more than 5 miles from north to south! While the game Skyrim is somewhat larger, it more importantly masks distances on the map and with atmospheric effects to create an experience that feels greater in scale. Oblivion has the slowest walking speed have ever played. Yes, there are hacks and one can use the Caps Lock or Shift key to compensate, but requiring such measures for a basic mechanic is inconvenient at best. I don't have to mention the famous potato faces in Oblivion. This is a nice game but after playing Skyrim, most players will surely be bored or frustrated with it.
I liked this much more than original Crysis and almost as much as Far Cry. In fact, it's measurably better than the latter except for being only 6 hours long. Still, when on sale for $5, it's a bargain for all the variety of action and environments. Definitely worth adding to one's classic FPS collection.
The ships look good and the basic movements are intuitive. But the visuals are low grade, the voice acting is amateurish, and the story is like that of a cheaply made, early 2000s, TV sci-fi series. Instead, play Rebel Galaxy. It's light years better than this.
