Whispers of a Machine

Fun Sci-Fi Detective Game

A rather fun detective adventure game. And I do mean fun, it's not a hideously annoying adventure game, or pixel finder. It also has an unusual inclusion of a personality system that helps make things a bit more interesting. It's also not too long; you can finish it in a single day if you're dedicated.

UNCHARTED™: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Excellent Story, Fun Gameplay

An excellent game all around, especially if you enjoy good action scenes. The one drawback it has is a very long "shader rendering" load time the first time you start the game (or change GPUs). That can last for > 10 minutes. Other than that though, I can't say ther's anything bad about the game.

Tropico 3 Gold Edition

Tropico with Humor

This is the game that introduced humor into the Tropico franchise. It's not quite as refined as Tropico 4, but it's still enjoyable. And the graphics still look nice in the present.

Tropico 2

Tropico with Pirates!

This is a rather fun game, superior I'd say to the Tropico 1, though the former has better tutorials. It has a campain which is a lot of fun, and population needs have predictable demands and responses. On the other hand, the main way you make money is piracy. While this can go fantastically well leading to a large payout, a series of losses will crush your near term plans. When a ship looses, you loose the ship and all crew (save the captain). That can really put a damper on your plans as you have to not only build a new ship, but come up with the crew for it. And crew doesn't do manual labor.

MarZ: Tactical Base Defense

Fun Outpost Building RTT

This game is a neat combination of outpost builder and Real-Time Tactical action. The mechanics aren't complex. You have one unit type and a number of towers and mining units they can man. You can also build superweapons. Despite the small number of units and buildings, this game manages to be quite challenging. You have to build and maintain your outpost while under constant assault. And you only get per rewards if you complete missions with a perfect score (no losses, no damage to the hub). The resource crunch is real, so it can be real challenging to choose between upgrading buildings, getting more people to man them, or placing new things entirely. It's a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it!

Starship Troopers: Terran Command

An excellent RTT

This is barely an RTS game. You have some extremely minor base building in the form of unit prerequisite buildings, but they don't consume resources other than your fixed amount of space. You also don't have massive armies (for you at least, the bugs are another story) or resource colletion. I would classify it more along the lines of a Real-Time Tactical (RTT), similar to the Ground Control series. You have a set number of points you can use to recruit units. Those units are supplied by the fleet with no build time, and can only be deployed to prearranged positions. Or to put it in terms of rank, during a good portion of the game you answer to a Major. All that logistics is handled by your superior. But that just means you get to spend more time focusing on manuvering your limited forces, using special abilities and watching the carnage. The game throws massive waves of bugs at you that can feel like a wave across the entire map. One of your primary goals will be stretching your forces as much as you can, and Starship Troopers: Terran Command gives you a lot of ways to do this. From chokepoints, to elevation, to setting priority targets for individual units or groups. This makes it very true to Starship Troopers in feel and experience.

The Forgotten City

Easily Among The Best Games I've Played

The Forgotten City is a fantastic time loop adventure. The characters are well written, well acted, and unique. You won't see generic NPCs in this game; each one has a personality, a drive, and problems you can work to solve. Also, unlike some timeloop adventures, The Forgotten City lets you tell the first individual you meet after each time loop to go and perform all the little fixes you've discovered along the way. It's a colossal time saver, though you may want to do them all yourself on the final loop for different dialog in the epilogue. In any case, it's an experience; and one that will likely have you tearing up by the end. It's well worth the money.
