I.G.I. 2: Covert Strike

Dangerous levels of BS difficulty...

Seriously hard from about halfways in the game makes this more of a chore than a pleasure. Even with the excellent Neonix patch, this is too hard to recommend. There is also a fair amount of jank to put with. For instance, a RPG weilding trooper shoots you at point blank and kills you, yet does not die himself. I mean....Come on! Too annoying.

Redline

Endgame difficulty ruins it

This would have been a 4 star review, but the last few levels are ridiculous. It is fun up until that point, and the foot/car combat hydrid is cool for its time. The FOV seems a little off on foot though, and the game can be frustrating even on the earlier levels. I recommend a buy on sale if this sort of game appeals to you,

Goosebumps: The Game

A bit too basic.

There's no plot as such, other than weird stuff is happening. No map fuction and text lines everytime you enter or exit a scene make for some laborious travelling. It's fuctional enough, and the art style is nice. Feels adventure-lite.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior

Enjoyable with a few pointers

Fun arcadey sniper shooter. There is some jankiness in some of the levels, and the story seems all over the place at first. Please take note of the bar at the bottom of the screen which tells you when you are seen, when it's full you're spotted.

Mainlining

A PnClick adventure about hacking

The entire interface is a computer screen and you do your bit for MI7. I like the graphical/audio style and the apps are all easy to navigate. A nice adventure, but not mind-blowing.

Daymare: 1998

Surprised me!

Came in with low expectations and it kind of blew me away. Excellent level design and atmosphere. Sound design is also very good. Possibly the most derivative game I have ever played, but well executed generally, with only a few minor issues. As of 2025, this game ran perfectly, and controlled just fine on k+m. However, I did have to turn the mouse sensitivity up to solve some sluggish aim issues. I got this game for free, but I would have been happy if I purchased on a sale.

Pandemonium!

Fun, varied and visually interesting.

The fast pace platforming with twisting perspectives provide some visual treats, although the graphics themselves are PS1. The jumping is precise, but the double jump window on the agile character is a little too precise. A good game with a few frustrations, also almost no plot/cut scenes.

Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper

A mostly excellent Holmes adventure

I had a lot of fun playing this, and considerable effort must of gone into tying up the real world facts and Holmes' story. Good characters, good dialogue, OK voice acting, and a very 'real' 1880's Whitechapel. I mean they really don't pretty it up. Had some trouble getting it running properly on Win11, but got it working fine with various patches. There is a bug for some regarding drawing an ellipse on a map, I had it, and it's solved buy drawing a slightly larger circle. It's all on the web. 5 stars seems a little too keen given some of the technical issues, but honestly, as a fan of the books, true crime, and detective stories, this is great fun.

Return of the Phantom

Alt-F12 is your friend

Enjoyable enough while it lasts, especially if you speed through all those long walkabouts with Alt-F12. Also, cheat the maze, because seriously, who needs to do those anymore?

Darklands

Hate to give this 2 Stars

There's some nice ideas in this game and I did enjoy it for a while. However, the combat grind, slow dungeon movement, lack of character models and quest repetition got the better of me. Almost no sound, but I like the gfx. I bet this was well liked in it's day though.
