Sacred 2 Gold

Fun old but gold ARPG

Another game in the Sacred ARPG series. The GOG version works out of the box, so no need to go looking for patches or mods to make the game run well on modern hardware. The controls take a little bit of time to get used to, and the character occasionally gets stuck on the scenery, but this is an enjoyable game. The Gold version also comes with the Fallen Angel and Ice & Blood expansions.

Sacred Gold

An old but gold ARPG

Sacred is an ARPG that follows in the footsteps of Diablo, and is a very enjoyable experience! The version here on GOG runs perfectly, but the ReBorn HD mod allows you to run it in widescreen with some balance changes. The Gold edition includes the base game, plus the Sacred Plus and Sacred Underworld expansions.

Uru: Complete Chronicles

Only for hard core Myst players

If you enjoyed the Myst games, then you'll probably enjoy Uru. However, this game is quite different to the other entries in the series in that it made a move to 3D and you view the game world in third-person. There's a lot of walking and exploration in the game and I found the puzzles to be significantly harder than those in the Myst games. You will very likely need to consult a walkthrough at some time to get through the game, but don't feel bad as some of the puzzles are really obtuse. The game was originally destined to be online, which is why you create a character at the beginning, but this never came to fruition. The environments are beautifully done, but I'd only recommend this to hard core Myst players. The Complete Chronicles also includes the 'To D'ni' and 'The Path of the Shell' expansions, so there's plenty of content here to keep you busy.

STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II (Classic, 2005)

A must play for any Star Wars fan

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is a game from 2005, but has been recently patched and works well on modern systems. It's as good as the first game, if not better. The game includes a new story, more classic locations, and even more classes and vehicles. The whole thing is put together extremely well, and although the graphics are now a little dated, the gameplay more than makes up for it. It's a must play for any Star Wars fan.

STAR WARS™ Battlefront (Classic, 2004)

Still shines as one of the best

Star Wars Battlefront is a game from 2004, but has been recently patched and works well on modern systems. It's extremely well put together and allows you to experience epic Star Wars battles from episodes I to VI as a Rebel, Imperial, Clone Trooper or Battle Droid. There's a huge choice of weapons and vehicles/spacecraft that make this such an enjoyable experience. Even today, when there are more modern Star Wars games available, this still shines as one of the best.

Blade Runner - Enhanced Edition

Another great remaster from Nightdive

There was some criticism of the remaster when it came out, so I waited a while to give Nightdive Studios time to fix the issues before I played it, which I think was a good move. I'm a massive Blade Runner fan, yet had never played this point & click adventure game from 1997, and had a great experience with this Enhanced Edition. In the game you visit many of the locations from the original Blade Runner film, and encounter many of the same characters, but the story is unique. Some procedural generation is involved, so every playthrough can be different. The choices you make along the way can lead to one of multiple endings.

Beyond Good & Evil™

Help Jade expose a corrupt government

Beyond Good & Evil is a game from the PS2 era, so don't expect amazing graphics. The port is a little janky and the controls are difficult, but if you're willing to tinker with it a bit, this game is an absolute classic. The story is excellent - your character, Jade the rebellious reporter, must infiltrate secret bases to gather evidence in order to expose a corrupt government.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

Fun and generous Witcher CCG

So, despite not having played Witcher 3 yet, I decided to give Gwent: The Witcher Card Game a go, and really enjoyed the experience. It was initially free, and was very generous without having to venture into micro transactions. Loved the art style from The Witcher universe as I had played Witcher 1 and 2. Liked the tactical possibilities of the melee and ranged rows and the unique faction leader abilities.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Here's where it all started!

Here's where it all started! CD Project Red built The Witcher on the Aurora engine, which was used for Neverwinter Nights. It's now getting a bit long in the tooth, but still worth playing if you want to see the origin of The Witcher series. The combat can be a bit clunky and the overall experience can be a bit rough compared to the more modern games, but it still holds a certain charm. Although I played through this many years ago, I would still recommend it.

Deus Ex 2: Invisible War

The much-maligned Deus Ex 2

The much-maligned second entry in the Deus Ex series, Invisible War is a sequel to one of the best games ever made, so had a lot to live up to and inevitably disappointed. It didn't help that the game was primarily designed for Xbox, so had to live within the constraints of that platform before being ported to the PC. Having said all that, I'd still recommend this game to Deus Ex fans. Yes, it's somewhat clunky and dumbed-down compared to the original Deus Ex, but the story is worth playing through, and there are some memorable moments.
