I tried everything in the books (Including all GoG proposed solutions) but I can't make this game work without crashing during combat. I have a high end computer running Windows 7-64. Injury is added to aggravation since there is no possibility of saving a game outside of pre-scripted checkpoints. I can't complain too much because of the low discounted price at GoG but still, a great disappointment.
This is a great game for the price on GoG. There's little if any learning curve to this game but it takes some strategy to ace it, something I did on the second run (It's not overly complicated if you actually read the final evaluation after you retire your character (Or your character is retired once your faction wins the war). There are a few bugs and the outcome of missions and fights is a little too much a matter of the "turn of the dices" to my taste. This however is compensated by the ability to save games anytime outside combat.
Stupendous graphics. Fun gameplay. Choice of what to do when ever you get killed. What more to ask for in this type of game? A better story line? Who cares! A better difficulty balance between the main story line and the side quests? Maybe but even then...What can I say I just loved this game from the beginning to the end. Of course, the interface sucks at the worse possible moments in the game but I've seen worst in games that would never compare to this one and cost ten times more. A Gem!!! No joke!
An other game that just won't work on my system (Top of the line coreI7 processor, graphic and sound cards). I tried to run it on Win7 but it just freeze as soon as I try to get into the car. I tried all the tricks available on GOG but to no avail. Mind you I got the complete series on GOG at a weekend discount price so I am not complaining about money but just the shear fact that I really wanted to play the whole thing rather than just the last one. Major bummer!!!
The second best point and click genre game I ever played (If you really want to know, J.U.L.I.A. is my all time favorite). The story on its own could have been a very successful sci-fi short. The graphics are very good with a details level good enough to make discovery of objects relatively easy. The dialogues are also quite good and the humor is neither vulgar nor infantile. The interface works well. So why not five stars? Well it's just that some of the puzzles are nearly impossible to solve without a walkthrough (Not an issue since it's readily available on the web) and this takes away some of the interest in the game and, certainly, the player's sense of achievement. I will not give examples here not to spoil the game. The fact that there is absolutely no replay value once you solved it could also have an impact safe for the fact that it's pretty well a "de facto" for this genre. Overall though very well worth having specially if, like me, you can get it at a discount from GOG.
I bought this game because I remember it was a very favorite of mine at the time it came out. I played and replayed it for years. Alas, this time around, big disappointment. I can't make the interface work with my present equipment. Joystick won't work and neither does the mouse. And I'm not about to play this type of game with the keyboard. So... not much positive to tell...
