It's a shame how they botched it. The game is less of a shooter than the prevous installments - it is clearly just an excuse to aggressively shove left-wing ideology and political leaning in your face. It makes it extremely annoying, spoils the story (also, Blazko's family backgrounds story is such a politically cynical bs) and, unfortunately, in terms of quality anticipates the failed follow-ups in the Wolfenstein series released later.
The game looks interesting and the comic style is what makes this game attractive (although the faces that all look the same, and weird at that (all men with strange lips) ) . However, as it is basically a shooter, it falls flat - there is something really off with aiming. I can shoot better by just moving sideways rather than aiming with the mouse, and I have experience with a lot of shooters. The efficiency and accuracy of weapons is really strange too. Enemies are really bullet spongy against most of the arsenal. The best thing to do is to just try headshots all the time to reduce the frustration. The dialogues are rather infantile and maybee it wouldn't be so noticeble, if the voice acting were not so infantile too (it is not just bad - there is also something weird about how the dialogues are read - it sounds very amateurish, as if they took some random guys from a table RPG session). What is the worst thing is the saving system, of course. You can only save after you reach an arbitrary checkpoint and even then there are sometimes situations, when you have to replay the whole level again, if you forget to save manually. The game DOES not save progress on its own. I have had to replay the same level (I play on higher difficulty) several times just because something random, which got mee killed, happened at the end. Overall, I expected much much more of this game. It is a huge disappointment.
The game itself is one legend of a game and worth considering. This version, however, is mediocre. It is great that they allowed players to use the "clean" version and you can change the settings any time, but the "clasic" version is still one of the worse versions of the game available. Music in the remaster is bad, I do not know what they were even thinking, but the 8-bit version is also an inferior version of what was available on other platforms at that time! Check Amiga longplays to see what I mean. The intro, with the poor, speeded-up intrumental variant, is the first example of that. Also, SFXs are more annoying than attractive - again, compare with the Amiga version from 28 years ago! Don't tell me that it was not possible to re-use it, let alone improve upon it! What was really annoying with this version were also the controls - cannot be changed, sometimes single hits register as double hits, sometimes register as a different one (e.g. when you use alt to get the gun and then an arrow right away, the arrow hit registers as the second alt hit, which makes your character hide his gun. You can imagine how frustrating it made some of the fights, which, btw, are also inconsistent in how the enemies react. What helped with this buggy key issue was the new rewind function, which is a very good addition to the game, especially to those who value their time. The implemented extra points to collect for unlocks is something extra that some folks might apreciate, and the street art is a nice addition for people who like the game, but for mee it is not a real selling point. Other than that, you get your classic Flashback. I cannot deny that it is nice that somebody has decided to work on it, and there is even an option to change the color of the t-shirt of the character to white, the Amiga version, but there is so much more that hasn't been addressed. All in all, thee game is worth the purchase, but the remaster could have been better.
It is one of those games that deserve both your money and time. It is a game which gives you a real Blade Runner/Cyberpunk Noir feel. Nice, atmospheric graphics (if you take into account the passing time, of course) and gameplay/story which immediately brings you back into the world of Blade Runner. The price tag is resonable even for a game this old. You hare to respect GOG for bringing it back - it was near impossible. I played this game a long time ago and was hoping I could repeat the experience one day. There were no options for me to do so. Then they released it here! I recommend you buy it too. Thank me later.
It's a game good enough to follow the fate of Clementine, the protagonist so far, but it wasn't executed well: the writing is average at best, with a lot of inconsistencies (dialogues ignore some of your decisions and are sometimes random) and implausible behaviour of characters. It's similar to the Michonne game with the difference that in the latter there were at least a lot of characters who were well developed. And then again, their behaviour was much too often unbelievably stupid - I know it is a typical feature of TWD productions, series included, because it allows characters to be killed more easily and makes up for poor writing skills/ideas of screenwriters, but the result is that suspension of disbelief is not always a thing. A typical example is that zombies are not noticed even in open spaces until the very last moment, and then quicktime events follow, of course. In this game we are Javier most of the time and Clementine is just a co-character/companion that apparently you are supposed to influence somehow for future production(s)?, looking at the summing up of what Clementine has become in the story at the end of the game. I wonder if it influencea her decisions in the final season, but I doubt so, knowing Telltale. She herself is not very believable in this game in that the makers decided to make her a badass, which does not seem very plausible, when you think about it, even if we assume that she has acquired some good survival skills. She is too young for many of the actions she performs. Dialogue system is poor, again, as certain dialogue options give you dialogue lines that make no sense in relation to your pick. I restarted certain checkpoints several times after I got a surprisingly idiotic reaction from my character. In this game there is no option to "rewind" episodes to previous checkpoints - once you have gone past another one following the choice you are considering to change, you have to restart the whole episode to change your decision.
