Planescape: Torment is quite possibly the best cRPG ever created. Even with all Baldur's Gate 2 had, I would still rate the world and story in PS:T higher. The story of this game is the most compelling part. The dialogue, scripting, characterisation are all done outstandingly. The characters all have their own history, often quite complex and if you spend the time you can find out an amazing amount about your companions. Far more than in any other cRPG I ever played. They creators of this masterpiece also fully utilised the setting. Party members can be *anything*. PS:T is quite dated, graphically, compared to modern games though still tolerable. Modern games are all about "showing" the user. You have rich detailed worlds with ultra high resolutions but most gamers never stop to appreciate it. However PS:T invokes your imagination to fill out the details. This is such a powerful tool and the dialogue is so excellent the world just seems so alive and dynamic. The game describes the world to you and your mind fills it in. The setting just seems so interesting. If you start out with the idea to rush to the finish you will end up reading everything and wont remember when you started doing that. There is just no words that can really describe how fantastic the game world is, how awesome the story is. You are a power in the world, but not the only one. You will meet others with their own agenda. The game just so seamlessly blends "gameplay" and "interaction" and "story". Lastly well the stat system in the game is done great. Having a high strength stat means you are strong right? Well this is probably the only game ever made where that is true but yet you wont even realise how that changed the game until you play through again with say high intelligence or high charisma. Some tips Might be worth getting a resolution mod. Try playing a mage through at least once, even if you don't like them usually. The modron cube has a trick to it beyond playing pretend :P
