METAL GEAR SOLID

Classic

I haven't played this version, but I'm giving 5 stars because I'm annoyed by people complaining about lack of some language - there was a time, when not every game was translated to so many languages, you know? Play in English, you lazy kidos.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

I wanted to love it, but I couldn't

I have a very special feelings towards AA third-person games, that pop up from time to time. I loved Remember Me - a game almost nobody remembers about. Then came Senua and I loved it even more. And I thought it will be the same with Plague Tale, but the longer I played it, the more I realised how flawed it is. At the begining it seemed fresh and original and after first session with the game - which took about 2 hours - I rated it 8 out of 10. Deeper into to the game I realised it's more of a 7 out of 10 production and it was fine by me, I still liked it, but one of the bigger issues started to emerge: inconsistency between the game's subject, it's overall mood and the gameplay, which is completly out of place and at times just ridiculous. This issue gets more and more apparent towards the end of the game. The game was definitely rushed - the story falls apart near the ending, many things are left unexplained and it is completely unsatisfactory. I finished the game because I told myself that I will - I don't want to have to many games unfinished - but the final hours with it were just frustrating. I reached for this game because it seemed like another ambitious and original AA project with very alluring setting and it is all these things, but something went wrong with the execution. I think the developer eithere didn't have enough ideas to make gameplay more relevant or they lacked courage. Personally, I rate this game 6+ / 10 and I don't recommend it.

Lands of Lore™ 1+2

Worth trying out

This game is certainly worth trying out, especially if you want to see how games were back then. But, to be honest, I can't fully understand the enthusiasm for it that is present here on GOG. Obviously, the visuals can't be compared to modern standards and may be too much for some. For me, as I love old games and don't mind low resolution graphics, it was ok and didn't disturb my experience. Audio is better, with nice music and fully voiced dialogs, but don't expect rich sound design. In terms of gameplay game has really got old. Let's face it: RPG combat mechanics weren't perfect back then. It works like hack and slash with delay and is really not fun - after performing some action, be it attack or cast spell, you wait a while until actions are available again and click them as soon as possible. It all feels chaotic and random. The other thing, related to gameplay, is level design, which is often poor. You spend endless hours roaming endless dungeons, and you are often forced to travel back and forth. Riddles are sometimes good, but sometimes totally unintuitive so you often waste time searching for some hidden button or trying different combination of levers, which teleport you to the other end of the dungeon, but it's not where you wanted to get, so you travel back to those levers, try something different and so on... thank God for saves. Despite these flaws, I had a good time with this game. It really gives you the sense of adventure, which is so rare in modern games. At the beginning you are really eager to leave the castle and discover the world that awaits. Also, after each dungeon there is some kind of a prize: a cutscene, some dialog, new companion, plot development and you really feel rewarded for all your hard work. This feeling is also hard to find in games today and for those two - sense of adventure and feeling of being rewarded - I give the game 4 out of 5 stars, despite the fact, that it is more like a 3+/5 game.

Dungeon Keeper Gold™

Good old times in the dungeon

Brilliant as ever. GOG version is good, no problems at all. Could switch to Polish language, change to better visual quality. Feels like childchood :)

Jack Orlando: A Cinematic Adventure - Director's Cut

Not much of a classic

I played this game as a child and I have fond memories of it, but now, when I'm older and know some stuff, I can see the game's flaws. Few major mistakes were made when creating it: - gameplay is annoying: most of the time you don't know what to do and why, so you roam the available area and click here and there trying to pick up things. There is no hidden design, that could push the player in right direction. Riddles are kinda stupid (you can't use a broom to lower a ladder, but you can use a crank), you often collect items that are not needed for anything (sic!) and, worst of all, Jack sometimes steals the items he needs or hurt other people to get them (I don't know what developers were thinking, really) - cutscenes are not that bad, but one issue is making them hard to stand: before scene changes you have to wait until a character leaves the frame, event if he's not present later. It's really annoying. Also, the introduction is far too long, making you say: let me play the game already! - options UI is ugly, and in-game UI is poorly implemented and designed, so you often end up not knowing which mouse button to press and you're just clicking them randomly until you do, what you wanted to do - visuals are so-so, not the worst, but also not very good: animations are weak and locations feel empty The best thing in this game is music, which is really brilliant and sometimes, when you manage to forget about all the annoying stuff, you can feel the mood of the era in which the game takes place. But it's not enough to make you stick with it and forget, that it is in fact a poor piece of computer entertainment.
