Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat

Failure to Launch...

The download seems to be missing a number of important files necesary for this to run (did a system wide file check after install), or their not extracting correctly... in any case after multiply tries I've decided to go for a refund, way more trouble then its worth... Maybe at some point GoG will sort out the problems with this game install...

ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery)

Frustrating Game

The game really lacks a PC knowledge base by this I mean even common potions/spells are unknown to the PCs, or at least the dozen or so that I played (basic healing, remove curse etc), the "towns" are basic and lack services that might help with NPCs rarely provide anything usefull, its a game that would likely benefit from fewer cursed items as well or at least an easier way to get rid of them. One to miss...

Knights of the Chalice

An Honest Appraisal

Kind of frustating, I've played this game for over a 100 hours, you can get killed very easily at the beginning and the end battles are impossible to all intensive purposes without being very very lucky, well most of the time you need to be very lucky... The story line is simple and direct and the game often involves preset battles in which your characters are invariably caught out in ambushes where your poorly positioned and against overwhelming odds. Lacks some balance I would say and definatly a tutorial as well a some good pointers to the vulnarabilitys of PCs and NPCs as much is not covered in the help.

Hammerwatch

A Jem

So I was looking for something uncomplicated along the lines of a game I remember playing many years ago a fantasy dungeon pixel art hack and slash adventure game and this one came up... and as it was on sale I thought I'd give it ago, its got to be worth 2 bucks after all... And I wasn't disapointed game play is relatively simple and the controls work reasonably well even using only a keyboard, but the game itself can be quite challenging, all in all a good experience. The downside.... none that I can see as long as your aspirations are not too high. .-)

Heroes of Hammerwatch

Terrible Controls

As some others have mentioned here the controls have changed somewhat from Hammerwatch and not in a positive way, for me this means a keyboard and mouse combination in order to control the character, if I had a duel stick I'd try it but I dont think I'd fare any better, Key board is the usual WSAD keys for movement direction but unlike Hammerwatch the character DOES NOT FACE THE DIRECTION OF MOVEMENT and instead relies on a difficult and not very intuitive combination using the mouse as a pointer for facing (changing the contols to different setting via the game menu didnt improve the situation) and other keys for skills requiring sometimes a three handed operation... add to that the slow attack speed response which in this case is by using the left mouse key and death is almost instant at game start.. I've just played my way through both Hammerwatch campaigns and had no real problem using solely the keyboard. So one to miss unless the controls change I think.... .-)
