Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft

Awesome! but read the short story first.

I really loved this game! I played it soon after finishing the actual shortstory (which is public domain btw) and found it to be a great companion to digesting what I had just read. Its basically just an audiobook of the actual shortstory with 3d visuals to help you visualize the events better, but its also sprinkled with fun facts and context for a lot of 'Dagon' and H.P. Lovecraft. Even if you read the story beforehand, its novel just to experience it again in this format. The voice acting, audio, and visuals are all great. But there is a reason you should read the short story first... The thing about reading horror stories like Lovecraft is that you will often do a lot of the heavy lifting for the story by imagining what is being described. Lovecraft is very descriptive but how you interpret and think about the description is different for everybody. For the most part I love the visuals in this game, but I was slightly disappointed by the actual climax of the story and how it was depicted. It just didn't match how I visualized it and it made the encounter less scary than it could have been. Is this a bad thing? not really. This game is free, and tells the story so well that I don't really care if it doesn't match my imagination. honestly, I don't think anything that can be made will ever match what your own imagination creates. That's why you should read 'Dagon' before you play this game. Make your own interpretation, then come back and take in another person's persepective. Enjoy the visual diorama and learn a bit about the creation of the story and the history of love craft. Honestly, if they make a version for every major lovecraft story I think that would be really great. I'll definitely check out the DLC

Resident Evil 2

I can finally experience the original

I've loved RE ever since I was a kid, and have played every main title release since REmake came out of GC. I never had the chance to experience any of these original games, but now having played RE1 and this I can see why they are as loved as they are. I'm not playing these out of obligation anymore, i'm playing because they are genuinely great and are unique from their remake counterparts. I'm glad that these are now so easy to aquire and play, and I hope capcom goes this direction with more of their old titles. There also has to be a huge commendation to GOG. All I had to do was start the game and plug in my controller and I could instantly hop into one of the scenarios. Minor improvements and quality of life additions make it a pretty faithful port and the definitive way to play this release. I think 10 dollars is pretty fair for what you are getting, but I have no doubt that RE3 will be just as solid and recommend just buying the collection.

Resident Evil

A surprising gift but thank you!

I have always wanted to play the original Resident Evil games, and so when I saw it added to GOG it was an easy purchase! The game plays great and I am surprised at how well it handles! The game has a charm to it that I completely love and it is nice to have these added to my library alongside all the other Resident Evil games I own. As far as issues with the game go, I have an issue where if my controller disconnects during gameplay it won't be detected again unless I close and reopen the program. The PC controls feel fine but I prefer playing on controller whenever possible. I hope this can be an easy fix in a patch, because otherwise I don't have many complaints with this port. The added polish and QoL Features make it probably the best way to play the game. If you are a fan of resident evil or just a fan of capcom in general, I would say buy it. I want to see more of their classic games ported like this and I am already heavily anticipating RE2 and RE3 when they are released!

BioShock™ Remastered

Great game, awful port

I really want to give this game a higher rating but I just cant with the state that the port is in. I love what I played, and I do think that Bioshock earned its status as a masterpiece. That being said, there are so many bugs and glitches in this port that I can't recommend it to anyone on PC. A few examples would be that the game would jam whenever I opened my map in a doorway, I would have audio glitches and occasionally the game would crash and delete my saves. This is all extremely frustrating and it seems that fans have only found ways to mitigate the problem, never fix it. This is the biggest reason why you shouldn't buy this game unless you are willing to do a lot of tinkering to get it into a functional state that can run for more than an hour. As for the game itself, the combat is fun, the worldbuilding is interesting and engaging, and the story made it hard to put the game down even after a hard crash. There is a lot to praise about the game and I cannot stress enough how much I would love to play a version that isn't marred by technical issues. If there is a breakthrough in a fan patch I will absolutely come back to play this game again
