Starvation is the least of your worries in this survival game, in fact the worst enemy is the cheap shot instant death of darkness. What's more one of the most basic things a survivalist would seek to do (especially seeing how the main characters a science boffin & would be able to look at things logically) is to make shelter even if just to keep out of the weather. There seems no permanent camp setup you can do because even the reed based sleeping bag is not reuseable and must be stored. Storage in this game is utter trite as the chest takes essentially 2-3 trees worth of wood meaning most of your game time is spent picking berries travelling and chopping tree's like mad. You do this time and time again in massed quantities, you get bored plain and simple. Give it a miss.
Jacke Keane the much talked about game is the one you absolutely must buy. Just look at all the response it gets, such as: 'Jack Keane is the unbeatable Boss. And this isn't even his final form.' -Melhelix 'Nice! I actually owned this back in the day' -CrowTRobo 'an object of such vivid discussion' -McDon 'Jack Keane 2 tells the story of a young boy called Guybrush Threepwood that a day decided to be a pirate' -micartu 'Jack Keane is like Mike Tyson in Punchout' -athawen 'I'd like to buy 75 copies of this game' -prof.C20H25N30
It doesn't have physics, predetermined free form decal scripting is more like it (for physics see red faction with digging through walls). It's main focus seems like an afterthought; as the sword controls are clunky, slashes don't register from time to time and once again due to using predetermined decal scripting no real sense of being able to part your enemies even when you do score a hit. It's upgrade system seems to have a lot of useless crap and should have focused on actual abilities as these are the only real things that seem to add much to the gameplay. Things that shouldn't blow up do. In fact the areas are littered with them causing you to either constantly waste ammo clearing the minefield or walk a precarious dance of trying to be mindful of where that exploding garbage bin is at all times less you take massive damage in the thick of melee. The upgrading of the weapons looked okay, but 3-4 upgrades seemed a bit small especially after playing borderlands. The base button configs are horrible try crouching and zooming and creeping diagonally and you'll know what I mean (hey Wang maybe I should just mash the keyboard dong :P). Sword fighting control, it never seemed to register a falling strike well at all. Could of been improved by using some actual physics and using tab to instance based fix view. No you have to be rolling your view around like Wang is a bobble head losing all perspective on what is actually happening.
Anyone who ever grew up playing gauntlet with a sibling will love this game. I have only just started playing it and I'm loving the feel of the game. In summary the game is a top down light action game where you take yourself and perhaps a partner through various levels of setting off enemies by proximity and dodging their attacks while wading on through battle. The pacing seems more relaxed than gauntlet (perhaps because gauntlet you use to slowly die so you couldn't waste time [ and there's an option to enable this, so no loss there]). Playing by keyboard is a bit clunky, as there is no moonwalking fire, though you can manage to get directional shots going and while you aren't moving these shots can be continued. I love how you can retro it up with graphics settings.
WARNING: This game is highly addictive! A platforming roguelike where you constantly die because you get mislead into thinking that you're in your groove/element, but you've just gotten comfortable and inattentive sucker :P Some games have massive lists of achievements that draw you in... In spelunky, just try to resist all that shiny treasure you 'COULD' be taking with you... DAMNIT YOU'VE GOT TO TRY!!! *Death ensued. One thing I never got though is that the psvita version allows proper split screening (between devices) why was that not possible having obviously had time to implement such a feature for the multiplayer across the board since it's very successful release on the xbox? It doesn't let it down though the game holds it's own as a single player by all rights and any and all multiplayer functionality is going to be well recieved.
I come from a background of growing up with SWS's series starting with the exile series I particularly miss 2 aspects the feed & train system and the massive party mechanism. I also miss switching out humans for a whole slith or nephil force. I particularly hate the skills tree style.
