Wing Commander™ 4: The Price of Freedom

One of those games that suck you in...

... there are only a few that manage to keep you as glued to your screen as WC4 does. You WANT to know how the story continues. What will be the next plot development? Who will be an unexpected ally, whose of your friends might be a traitor? While no element of this description sounds original to any gamer (or movie buff, for that matter), WC4 executes the storyline to perfection. It is up there with some of the best adventure games (think Tex Murphys Pandora Directive or the Last Express), and it shows how FMV is done right. Professional actors (Luke Skywalker, the guy from Clockwork Orange, Gimli the Dwarf and the dude from West Wing, to name only a few!) and slick directing do an amazing job to deliver the story to you. Plus, the game is an amazing space sim on top of that! I did my first playthrough on one of the easier difficulties because I was DYING to learn more about the story. Once you got your story fill, you can replay the game and turn up the difficulty - nightmare mode will be a challenge even for the most experienced space captains!
