I bought these both on Steam in a sale, just before they became available here. My self imposed budget for computer goodies is expended for this month, but I intend to buy them again here. Nothing against Steam, but I like having games that I can burn the install files to DVD and tuck away, and be able to load and play without usernames and passwords, or online DRM. I know it's necessary, but I don't have to like it. :) Between these and the Stalker series, I have a lot of newer big name games gathering dust.
This game had a bad rap when it came out for bugs and long load times. When it was in development, Half Life was released, they had to rush it out hoping to catch some of the market. They soon released a patch that fixed most of the bugs {all of them, for me} but in the days of dialup it was a massive download, I think the full final patch was around 30 meg, nothing now. I got it on a cover disk with a magazine, still have it. If I didn't still have my Sin/Wages of Sin disks, I would buy this in a second. There is also an excellent user made patch that addresses a few leftover issues, and improves sounds and some other things that escape me, been a while.
I recommend you grab this now, just excellent. I have had this for years, and I am still thinking of buying it here again just for the convenience of not digging out the cds'. Even if you don't play online, the bots in this are excellent. Many hours of entertainment for very little money, don't miss out on this.
I owned this game years ago, {EJ1}, bought this to get the sequel and the ease of installation. A lot of entertainment for very little money. And where else do you launch a cow to proceed?
This is about four copies of Duke I have bought, I also bought 1 and 2 again. With all the user made mods and levels, total conversions and such you could play this game forever. i won't say much about the long awaited Duke Nukem Forever, if you can't say something nice about something, better to leave it alone.
