Metro Exodus is quite an adjustment for me, and nearly all good and bad reviews here apply. Lol. I throw many cans at soldiers on train, and am making some progress; but there are MANY cutscenes, almost plays like an interactive novel, yet IS based on a book. I think with this release Metro invented a new genre, maybe not for everybody, and annoyed me at first, but I think I am beginning to like it. When I came up with that can thing was fun: Gameplay is versatile in this way, yet somewhat linear, but not so much as previous titles in the series. It's also dark enough, yet is not so dark either as the others. I tried playing the original Metro more than once, other version than GOG: The frustration and tunnels had me giving up; this one has me trying harder partly because of the more open and detailed environment. Again, I would just read all other reviews here and say 'yes', they are ALL correct; so anyone Considering a purchase has been Informed: If you want to try something different, this is a great game for that... buy it at sale-price. Finally, I probably have not progressed to reported glitched areas, but so far have found none. I am also running the vanilla, not enhanced and with minimum specs on an i5 nv730: Turn off 'blur' completely in the userconfig file, right in the root directory, display at old-school resolution (about 1280 to 1440), quicksave whenever possible, and have a ball! Also does not do well on dx12 on my Win10, at first start; so be patient and change that: The 2 minute wait for changes is caused by this and the blur setting; so is any lag... I think I want to learn this game, so giving it five stars; thanks again GOG! :-)
Trail Out I purchased lately, with 'Flatout 2' in mind, that I still enjoy actually in it's later 'carnage' version. I agree with those who compare it to this, and Wreckfest which I also bought here awhile ago. It shows some progress that GOG does includes it here; it's another racer that fits right in with the spirit of that excellent series, it's mostly excellent as well. I have two minor complaints, that for others may not matter much, as the gameplay itself again is very good -- There is too much story, more than usual or than flatout; and I like racing more than career biographies or characters, or I would play an RPG (as I also like to do sometimes). Also, there are no replays in Trail Out. Especially after losses or crashes, I like to know what happened afterward. It is also something to watch if one has lost the race, at least for entertainment and to see that one good move you made in the second lap before you got plowed off the track into a desert wasteland in your third lap. Lol. Trail Out in it's other features (and frankly the story also reminds me of a twisted EA story) reminds me of the glory days of PC auto racing games of the past, and plenty good for the present. If it offered replays I would consider it perfect in every way. I can only give 3.5 stars, 4 here, because this especially was disappointing in an otherwise fun game. I also don't regret my purchase, as the racing is fun; and I hope the developers do well enough to consider creating another that does include replays. I will also point out it is nothing to do with nationality that I do not like the story; THAT is the ONLY thing I DO like about the story! Lol: Lets hear it for 'The Eastern Block'! YEAH! :-)
Death Track Resurrection reminds me of the later 'blur'. I like DTR better. It is good enough graphically, though is older than blur I think; I find it difficult to win, as blur also was, most people liked anyway for the thrill of it all. I find DTR more thrilling; and no more debris on the track than in blur, and less being left alone in the race, than in blur, when you trail behind. There are also trainers, that I do not like to use; but for this game only more armor and You can compete, more training and practice and You can compete finally without help... Like blur it takes practice and training; and no weird 'win the woman's car' story-line, as in blur; just fun exciting gameshow racing, like Split-Second that I also like. It's actually a bit more exciting and interactive in it's presentation than that other racer's 'show' during a race. Lol. For those who don't mind driving in a racing game at times faster than You can think, this is a great game, right up there with similar titles. And it puts it's own flavor and spin on the genre, with more character. And if a racer is going to be difficult to win it should have great physics for the driving to learn; I prefer arcade racers with some simulation, and felt it was a good balance in this game: I play with a gamepad. So, if all of this appeals to You, I HIGHLY recommend Death Track Resurrection. And it runs fine on Windows 10, an i5 (probably even on older pcs), looks great even on my older 7** Nvidia display. If uncertain buy it on sale; I did, and is worth more than the price that paid: another great old game from GOG! :-)
Trepang2... Uh, Half-life 2, anybody? Lol. Someone mentioned this began as a mod for another game; Let me guess... I have never played 'F.E.A.R.' either, but there is also NOTHING SCARY about Trepang AT ALL, so I am guessing maybe so many are too young to remember Half-life 2: Other than being better and more interesting, with a different story and more interesting gameplay (weapon upgrades, etc), Trepang2 IS Half-life 2! Well, I HATED Half-life 2; I actually preferred mods (Black Mesa) based on and the Original Half-life. I however had a GREAT time playing Trepang 2. So, for anyone else who loved or hated the game and the era of Half-life 2, You will also probably LOVE Trepang2, as it is the same game but BETTER; likely shorter, I am only just beginning, but enough to Know what I mean for a review here: As I appreciate Black Mesa as an upgrade to the original Half-Life, I can now enjoy Trepang2 as a total replacement of the original and tedious Half-Life 2 I did not like at all in it's original story and form: The boat chases, helicopters and story-line I found tedious and depressing... A game should never be too depressing, and mostly fun. I admit I do not play the horror genre anyway; so beware if You do, that Trepang2 is mostly fps Action and FUN... It runs fine on my old i5 win10 with older 7** Nvidia graphics; I cranked up the AA and set everything else on medium/low and am having a GREAT old time -- HALLELUJAH! THANKS AGAIN, GOG!
'World Racing 2: Champion Edition' is a great modern substitute for any who loved earlier EA racing titles. However, it's career mode has been called central by some reviewers; it IS central, as one can not enjoy more than one poorly selected car and track in single-race mode without progressing in career mode. The career mode order and progression is also the worse I have ever seen in a racing game. Otherwise, my hat's off to the apparently one man who brought this game up to date for us; it IS a BLAST, after cars and tracks are unlocked with another's save file, one can download online. The one I found left the career alone, so I can still hurt myself if I like. Lol. Otherwise, a live rear-view mirror, a horn, end of race replays, and all that the bigshots left behind is here to be enjoyed in this retro racer. It also looks gorgeous, compared to the orginals -- I do not understand some complaints about graphics, but that it IS more a retro redux than modern game. Be warned, it also has primitive aspects of some rubber-banding, arcade driving; but these are also adjustable in the Options menu. It also has no licensed vehicles, in it's newer form here, which is fine with me, as it is a GAME. The competition also consists of maximum five other drivers, which is just enough and is two more than another racer I bought here that was otherwise nice. But I prefer twelve to twenty for competing offline. Finally, why only four stars is the menu and saves are like career mode, rather confusing. Simply go back to profile settings and save whatever you change in-game, and it retains your stats and configurations. The 'demo' is also only for using a keyboard only, and seems no way to change it: Microsoft Rally series had the same defect on pc and xbox, also a retro thing I think. Lol. But the gameplay is the main thing, and is GREAT; so, if you want to go Retro, GRAB this game! Thanks to GOG for this; especially since there are not enough of these here.
Okay, I am a sucker for good science fiction in a game; I am also willing to learn. I have a lot to learn while I'm playing this one lately; but I made it through the tutorial, 'died' once or twice afterward: the game plays fine on my Win 10 i5 with an older Nvidia card. Even veteran strategists say this one's tough; but an immersive environment helps keep my interest and concentration, and this one does the trick. I've paused for a bit, after the tutorial, before I start placing more turrets and 'killing' more things, but I'm looking forward to playing some more. One thing a bit unclear, Others have mentioned: at a point one is supposed to take a turret for the first time, they are in a cabinet to your right from the machine you will be standing at; a darkened corner, I did not find at first and was not mentioned. You can also speed the process of their manufacture from a terminal in the same room. Another, 'not easy, but worth the effort' I like to try, and I recommend with three stars; and I think to wait for a sale. I would give four stars at a lower price, as it seems rather experimental both to develope and to play. Lol. But I am enjoying it, since I bought this on sale: THANKS GOG! :-)
Some games I like to play, some I want to learn: I tried others, to learn RTS, and this game wins the prize for it's performance and tutorial. My hat's off to veteran RTS gamers out there, so much to do and keep track of... I always say computers multi-task for me, because I can not do this so well! However, because the camera works, the graphics are great, and the tutorial at least is good basic instruction, I highly recommend Homeworld for newbies at least. I'm a newbie, so I can't say for certain of more experienced players. If one can laugh at oneself and try again, here's Your chance! Because the performance and visuals are excellent on my Win 10 i5 and older nvidia card, my own first frigate's explosion was GLORIOUS; and I did laugh because I could tell what I likely did wrong, as I could at least follow the action to hopefully learn from the mistakes. I recommend with four stars, as I don't Know so much, or would give it five easy for a newbie to try. I also bought this on sale, and would recommend waiting for one also especially if unfamiliar with RTS; it will take a bit of time to learn.
Maybe I'm a bit old, but I do not see where being somewhat like 'Bioshock' or 'Mass Effect' is a bad thing; and I really like 'The Outer Worlds' so far, partly for this reason. It's also open-world enough for me -- even one of the smallest maps that I have encountered, one laboratory location. Finally, that Obsidian devolved is somehow evident in this title, I don't agree; on one hand gamers like to see some innovation, on the other, complain about humor or emphasis this takes at times. So, don't play this if you are easily offended, I guess. I found the Bioshock series somewhat disturbing in specific areas of the story; I find this game to be less-so and more Fun. I HIGHLY recommend the version available at the time of this review; I also avoided the 'Corporate' version, that only looked like extra content I have no interest in. But the base game rocks; especially if You DO like past classics Obsidian did but are looking for something new by them: BUY this, even if NOT on sale! It also ran fine on my old Win 10 i5 and nvidia graphics, 16gb memory; no stutter or issues at all.
Sorry I bought this god-awful piece of crap... It may get a medal for being the worst purchase I ever made here; and not GOG'S fault, but that they ARE Offering it here. It is a buggy, unfinished, LARGE piece of trash, NOT a fun arcade racer at all; and if one wants a more realistic driving physics sim, even Shift or Grid work as intended; Wreckfest frankly is just a WRECK: The others mentioned, being NOT arcade racers, at least have only a couple of necessary adjustments to control your car. Under the 'Advanced' menu of Wreckfest and putting ALL of the too-many settings in just the right place, you MAY be able to ALMOST drive with a gamepad. I don't know about a wheel controller, but this must be WORSE I suspect. As others have warned, ENJOY FLATOUT; THIS game is NO sucessor or replacement! How many stars for a WRECK? Hope we ALL have a HAPPIER New Year than THIS load of manure! Lol. Updated October 2025: It IS tricky, complicated more than it should be to adjust all of the controls; but I later found 64% saturation for everything solved the problem, can now PLAY this game. I now give 3 stars, another half if I could, for only some frame-rate and bloat issues, requiring driving full screen with no 'hood' view, and tweaking everything down a bit in display settings: then I CAN compete! :-)
I admit, I never heard of this game posted here until lately. I also do not remember it from other times, as Others have said, looking through GOGs far too small library of racing titles. I'm glad I did notice it finally, that has replays, split-screen, some aspects of Forsa, Project Gotham, and early EA releases, also as Others have mentioned. But, especially that the graphics were even better for 2004 in SRS, than the others mentioned, was the best surprise... Depth-perception is very important for a racing game, to see the curve before hitting a wall; yet on xbox, ps2, gamecube, and pc I played, the others mentioned weren't so good for this. The 3d in SRS is the best I've seen of the time, and highly under-rated especially for this reason, I think: One can better see the road ahead! So I agree with all of the other positive reviews here. And, though I could do without the unique 'win the girl' element, also for me adds some humorous nostalgia to the game, increased by the fact it's kind of an 'NFS' with TUNER cars at the beginning, like other games I played, when 'Carbon' and others then (that I also STILL have) were like driving blind, and EA wasn't doing something better: I would have bought SRS even at full price if I'd known about it... 5 stars easy -- especially for the price here! Thanks for the memories again, GOG, even a little different than I remember, since I MISSED this one back then... It's a FUN game everyone should have, who likes racers of that time :-)
