Edna & Harvey: The Breakout + Harvey's New Eyes

Spoilerfree: NOT for children!

These colourful screenshots might make you think, this adventure is suitable for kids? Nope. It's not. The first half of "The Breakout" is light hearted. But then... "New Eyes" goes completly off the rail. Adault humor, gruesome scenes, censorship goblins. Oh no, I'm not drunk. Some of the puzzles are pretty spaced, Manic Manson insanity. I play this genre since Monkey Island 1 and I've got into a lot of the classics before. The german voice acting is top notch, even though the sound quality can be flawed. Almost 90% of the storage, the game takes is for the speech files. Edna will comment on ANYTHING you try. Weird combinations - no standard sentences like "That's not working". You can spend hours, just to find some easter eggs by combining weird stuff. But Mustard on ALL THE THINGS! Write your name on ALL THE WALLS. I am sure that a lot of the jokes won't work in english. Lost in translation. This happens to translated Adventure games in german language, too. The animation is both games can be dodgy. But anything you see is handdrawn. And the music always matches the weird stuff that happens. Give Daedalic a try. :D

Deponia

Escape the garbage planet!

Deponia continues Daedalics way of playing with our expectations. The atmosphere switch isn't as heavy as it was in "Edna & Harvey", but there are still some unexpected plot twists and shenanigans. Rufus is an unlikeable jerk. On Purpose! Most jokes aims about his lack of self awareness and overexposure. He is surrounded by characters, that would be a better protagonist than him, but that is what makes the pay off so much better. I hope they all return in "Chaos". There is still some arc in Rufus. The hand painted enviroments and character designs are charming and well done. And finally HD. The animation is still stiff, bt not as bad as in "Edna". There is one cutscene at the end of each episode who looks gorgeus. The german voice acting cast does a pretty good job. Don't know about the english one. :( The puzzles are a mix of item combination, dialogs and crazy machines. Daedalic manages to deliver a bunch of puzzles at a time. So if you get stuck, you just take care of another problem. Only in the final stage, it gets pretty linear.
