They never made the sequel.

I have mixed feelings about this game: It's a solid game which I played for extensively (though this is mostly due to its difficulty). Other people have commented on various aspects of it, so I won't get into the technical aspects of it too much, but there is one segment in particular where you need drop-dead perfect timing. I always considered it to be along the same lines or even a pre-cursor to System Shock, but it isn't as good. This is also a relatively short game and while the story is great, it's unfinished. My guess there was supposed to be a sequel, but it never happened. At any rate, if you are curious about one of the first 3D games, what they were like and how they played, then buy this one. Otherwise, it's a pass. I loved this game when I was 19 or so, I finished it, and I never looked back. I don't suppose any of you will either.

Darwinia - 10000th Anniversary Edition

Fresh Air

That is what this game was to me when I first played it. It had a unique premise and storyline, and presented me with a new genre. I mean, I can only kill so many evil wizards, slay so many dragons, and lead a so many party of adventurers before things get a little old. You won't find a lot of blood, but you will find a lot of heart, and there is something to be said for the cool way the Darwinians either run away from danger, or rush head-long into it while firing their weapons (assuming you've equipped them with some). I won't say it's difficult, but it's certainly fun to see how the game responds to your commands. This is truly an under-appreciated classic if ever there was one. I've played through it twice now, and I was thinking to myself just last week that I should play it again, just for the sheer awesomeness of it. It's a bit on the short side, and I remember paying 9.99$ when it came out, so to see it on GOG at that price... well, wait for a sale, but don't miss out!

Fun! Sort of...

I guess I will be the only voice of dissent about this game. I remember playing these games quite a few days before the internet. Back then, those hint books were a downright NECESSITY if you ever wanted any hope of completing these games. In the "What's cool about it" section of the game, it lists Mind-boggling puzzles but the reality is that the so-called puzzles can only be solved by randomly clicking on the screen with no rhyme or reason for it. Cute? Yes. Funny? Absolutely. Logical or coherent puzzles? Nope. Before the internet, I had to shell out for the hint books... All three games are included, at a great price AND they include the hint books! That's nice. Be aware: You'll be printing those out and following the instructions in order to finish these games. Have fun with that. As for me, I'll play something a little less random and a lot more fun.
