Diablo + Hellfire

Still holds up legendary classic

The game was released in the late 90's and was a huge step forward for hack and slash roleplay. The thing about this game and most blizzard games is they stand the test of time. Once you get used to the age of the game, the Addictive quality starts creeping in again pulling you in and keeping you going just a little further. Create a character, one of three classes and descend down level after level until you reach Diablo. The first game in the classic series, this is where it all began. Absolutely recommended.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Completely worth it.

I bought this game on every platform including steam last year, one of the few games I achieved every achievement. The game can be difficult to get into at first maybe the first hour.... But after you get used to the combat system and reach the first major city things open up greatly. The game also features a unique Pawn system, a dedicated companion if you will. Your friends who play the game can trade stuff with you, you can use their Pawns in your party Etc. The game is the closest game I can think of to Dungeons and Dragons but it's 100% action based. Completely worth it.

Torchlight

Nice Diablo clone

It's a cartoony Diablo clone with great features like pets that head back to town to sell your loot and a nice menu/inventory system that can save you some time. There's nothing really new here and the game can be a trifle bit boring at times, mainly because of the sheer amount of loot management some of these games seem to drag you down with. Another strike against the game is that it's single player only. The devs explained that they are a small team and could not afford to add a co-op or multiplayer feature. They did with the sequel but sadly left the first game severely lacking. Overall a good Diablo clone, just don't expect anything great,

STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

Some of the best space games ever made

Played this game (and its Tie Fighter partner) so much back when they were first released. The games are an arcadestrategy space combat simulator in the Star Wars universe during the classic trilogy. The game features a hub where you can do things like training runs, check ship info and go on real missions. The gameplay is a standard cockpit view and works well with a gamepad (back when these were first released). The keyboard controls all the ships equipment and power levels: shields, lasers, hyperdrive etc. so I found myself keeping a close proximity to the keyboard to play this game. The game has its own "story" of sorts and missions involve disabling frigates, escort "quests", strikes and other types of activities all the while engaging in plenty of dog fights with the empire using some of the classic alliance starships such as the X-Wing, Y-Wing and A-Wing. During the fights the player must adjust speed velocity, shields and laser levels accordingly using the keyboard, again this can be a bit tough when using a controller but I found it to be completely playable that way. (In other words, I got real good at it). All around one of the funnest and most engaging games I played back when they were released. They still hold up well after all these years and I can't recommend these enough.

Volgarr the Viking

Worst gameplay of the 80's

Die, retry, die, retry, die, rety...die. Having fun yet? Its a Rastan clone but very unforgiving. No save points or save points spaced out so far apart that you will end up repeating levels over and over....and over again till your blue in the face. This old school punishment is not rewarding. It's a lesson in frustration and completely not necessary in this day and age. Bring the good stuff from the old days back but leave the bad programming and bad level design in the past where it should be.

Deathtrap Dungeon

Better than the PS1 version.

The PS1 version is different than the PC game. I remember finishing this game back in the 90's on PC and it was quite frustrating and a let down that it had nothing to do with the book for the most part. The graphics were pretty blocky like the original Tomb Raider and the gameplay was very similar. There was a bit of tongue and cheek humor in the game which kind of made up for the gameplay but overall I would only recommend this to die-hard Fighting Fantasy fans and even then I have to tell them it really has NOTHING from the book in it.

Heroes of Might and Magic® 5: Bundle

As good as HOMM3

I was not expecting this game to match the masterful HOMM 3 and not only did it match it but added some extra features as well. The only thing that I find a bit annoying is the choice to go with '3D' graphics rather than flat pre-rendered art etc like in HOMM3 and it shows because over the years it does not age well. -1 for the graphics but overall a great game and worthy of being one of the best HOMM games and equal if not better than HOMM3.
