Twinsen's Little Big Adventure 2 Classic

A truly excellent and unique game

Twinsen's Odyssey is still one of my favourite games of all time, and I still dig it out and play it every few years, smiling all the way. The game is a joy to play from start to finish, from the unique world and characters, to the whimsical humour throughout. This game takes Little Big Adventure - itself an excellent game in its own right - and addresses all the niggling issues that may have turned people off the previous title. Sporty mode no longer kills you (cue rage-quit) when you run into walls. There are now areas of towns where you can actually just wander around and enjoy the world without forever being in fear of a soldier or a robo-elephant. The graphics and music are improved. And you now have a car to roam around in, a dino-fly to fly, and a host of new locations and planets to explore. I actually still think graphically etc it stacks up well also so those of you wondering if you can cope with an older style game, have a look at the screenshots and give it a go. It's very accessible. I have been waiting for this release since joining GOG and am overjoyed it's here with us now. For $6 this is an absolute must-buy for any gamer.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows 2010 Edition

No threat to Tyrian..

Before I bought this game I flicked through the reviews and read a couple of negative comparisons with the much-loved Tyrian 2K.. but blinded by the nostalgia of having endlessly played this demo as a kid, bought and downloaded it anyway. Well having now played it through, I must say that after the initial excitement of having the full game of that demo that I had played for so long, this is a game that really lacks substance and design. It seems to have so much potential, yet plays almost like a beta release than a fully developed game. Not a bad game as such, but severely lacking polish in a wide number of areas and the gameplay and fun really suffers as a result. Unless you're a die-hard, collect-em-all topdown scrolling shooter nut, just go get Tyrian - a far better game in every possible respect. Thanks to gog nonetheless for the memories! A few dollars well spent nevertheless.
