Easily a must play for fans of the first two games and those who have never played them. We get the first two games remade from the ground up in UNREAL 5, with alot of the fluff either cut out or streamlined for a better experience. We also get some new stories, one focusing on the wife of the Painter & another focusing on a Writer, which explains how the first two games stories are connected and expanding on the universe. Throw in the upcoming new free chapter focusing on the Director & the fact all of this is priced at less than $50 AUD; you get alot of bang for your buck. Combat was also introduced to try and evolve beyond just being a walking sim. With mixed results, it works but is painfully barebones. The environments are fantastic & tout a genuinely creepy atmosphere that will get under your skin, and nothing else. Yeah it's disappointing that the game is never outright scary, it always gets you ready for a scare but can never go all the way. At least it's still an enjoyable experience.
Checked this out thanks to Sseth's review of it & he was right on the money Jokes & this being obvious furry fetish bait aside, this is a legitimately good game! Combat is simple but fun, platforming is solid & the source of the aforementioned 'bait', the size changing mechanic, works a treat. It significantly impacts the flow of your attack combos, movement speed & impact platforming challenges. So it's not just a gimmick, or source of 'eye candy', your fat reserves are something you need to keep track of & even can be used as a joint mana & healing pool. It's not perfect but it is a title worthy of a fair go & has fun to offer in one form or another for everyone. Also the sprite work & art style are good to
Been playing the SWITCH version and boy howdy does this game kick ass! Addictive turn based tactical combat that reminds me of one of my favourite GBA games, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and a branching story in an interesting dark fantastical world. But perhaps the best thing about it is that while playing it during an episode of depression I was so distracted form it that it literally made it disappeared! Screw Slime Rancher this is the game doctors should be giving keys out for as an anti-depressant.
More of a first impression than a full review but I can safely say this based on what little I have seen, this game is good. The combat has a nice brisk pace without going in to full Sekiro or Dark Souls 3 territories, a pleasant middle ground with some nice tactical additions. Mainly strategic dismemberment for desired loot and position based parrying. However the biggest issue of seen so far is the game's technical stability. It runs fine but when the framerate hiccups or the game freezes it's a sign that it's going to flatout crash soon. For what it's worth the game is worth taking a look if nothing else but I can tell that I am gonna enjoy it the more I play it.
