The Whispered World: Special Edition

Enjoyable but flawed adventure game

Deadalic Entertainment are one of the best, if not the best point 'n click adventure developers of recent times. They have created many excellent games, but I wouldn't place The Whispered World alongside them. The story is nothing to write home about and the voice acting is rather mediocre. The soundtrack and imagery on the other hand are well made and fit perfectly to this fantasy tale. Unfortunately the game is plagued with several illogical puzzles and nonsensical item combinations. Even though in the first half of the game, most of the riddles make sense, as the game progresses they are becoming more and more absurd (some even to the point of trolling and pestering the player, such as the color substances puzzle in the alchemy lab trickining you into thinking that you can create light blue color for the royal insignia).

Black Mirror 2

Worthy sequel to the original!

Black Mirror 2 improves on almost every aspect of its predecessor. Well, atmosphere for the first quarter of the game is lacking and most of the puzzles are not so demanding but from the moment you get to travel to England the game takes off from so-so mystery adventure to grandiose chilling thriller. Oh, and story-wise this is the best part of the black mirror trilogy with some mind-blowing twists. Highly recommended if you enjoyed the first game in the series.

Black Mirror 1

Excellent horror adventure

One of my favorite point 'n click adventures. The script is convincing and well executed, the riddles are quite challenging and the ambience is dreary and gloomy enough to immerse the player in this supernatural, full of twists thriller. Oh, and it's one of those games that you are able to collect items only when you really need them (pretty realistic imo), so you can't make progress just by "being lucky". The retail version seems pretty rare nowadays so grab it here, duration + lots of extras make it worthwhile.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete

Totally underestimated gem...

Seems to me that this classic doesn't get the praise it deserves. The original campaign follows an epic storyline with interesting characters and lore and great writing (as expected from Obsidian). It exceeds the first Neverwinter game in every possible way. The MotB campaign is the closest thing you can get to Planescape: Torment. Amazing plot, sublime dialogues and writing and unique npcs and companions. The spirit hunger aspect adds depth and a sense of urgency to gameplay. Oh, and it's the only dnd based game that you can truly role play an evil character! Storm of Zehir on the other hand, is trying to offer a more authentic pen 'n paper experience. Among new additions are an explorable overworld map and random encounters. Skills can be used during exploration for avoiding enemies finding secrets and many more. Story is not as good as in the other 2 games though there are a few good twists. Playing this game reminded me a bit of the Icewind Dale series. Overall, a great rpg pack that also offers the richest character creation in any D&D related game. Highly recommended!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

Sublime experience...

The best first person survival tactical shooter of all time. Only System Shock 2 comes close. Modded, it becomes one of the best games of all time, regardless of genre or platform. Period.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

Very underrated survival horror game

The game gas great puzzle, foreboding atmosphere, chilling soundtrack and a nice plot. Enjoyable action-adventure overall, reminds me a bit of other classics such as Resident Evil 1 and 2. Go buy it.... and well, screw the haters who are bashing the game for not being as much Lovecraft - centric as its prequels , they just missed the whole point of the series...

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Masterpiece.

A Machine for Pigs is an allegory to human greed and misconception. It divests itself of the Lovecraftian garment of the past and trades horror of the unknown for dread, disturbing and sometimes, heart wrenching imagery. Add to the mixture some high quality prose, amazing voice acting, riveting soundtrack and the best story in the (survival-horror) genre since Silent Hill 2. Highly recommended!

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition

Rare and sparkling gem!

I have already finished this game years ago since I own the retail version. This is a well-written action rpg with mystical atmosphere and weird lore. Also, it has a quite unique and innovative leveling system allowing for some great character building. Highly recommended!
