Legend of Grimrock

Really brings back the old school RPG!

Amazing at how well they brought back the nostalgia of the old-school RPG's but without being overly cheesy. The graphics and gameplay are modern, but the feel, puzzles, and movement are old-school!!

Arx Fatalis

Good game despite terrible controls

It's too bad this game has such horrible controls because it's really good otherwise. Even with the gesture based magic system that is incredibly touchy, it's a fun and immersive game. I recommend it, especially at the low price it is now. It's not quite on the level of Arcanum or Wizardy or Gothic, but it's pretty close. I will say that unlike some of the ones I mentioned, you can't really level yourself much beyond what side quests are offered. And also, as I've learned, the game is very unbalanced to favor magic even though the magic casting system sucks total ass. Thankfully, you can store up to three spells to use with a hotkey, so that helps the playability a good bit. The story is pretty good and definitely provides some enjoyment. If you haven't played it, it's worth it.

The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut - Standard Edition

It's ok, some enjoyment some frustration

Once I fixed my FOV the game was playable for me. I don't typically get motion sickness, but this game was giving me a slight headache after about 20 to 30 minutes of play until I fixed the FOV. Thankfully, this is now in the options. As for gameplay, it is ok. There are some fun interactions and some fun exploration that happens, but there are also a decent number of frustrations. I don't mind returning to an already explored area, but this game takes that to a new level, at least for those that want to solve all the side quests they've picked up. It's not a matter of being able to handle the side quests due to difficulty -- you just flat out can't get to a side quest objective until you've progressed further in the game. Again, that's not horrible, but this game does this a LOT. I did like a lot of the puzzles, but some of them were just too obtuse and difficult to where it really wasn't that fun anymore. And this game is full of puzzles to solve. In fact, I'd say this is more of a puzzle game than anything else, which wouldn't be a problem if some of the puzzles made more sense. The level of difficulty for battles starts out really hard, but then gets easier in the middle of the game, but the last fight is REALLY hard. Honestly, it's really unbalanced. There are periods of super difficult battles and those that are really easy. Overall, pretty unbalanced play in my opinion. You can (and sometimes have to) reconfigure your skills to deal with some of the tougher fights, including the final boss fight. I picked this up on sale and as long as you can get it on sale, then I'd say it's ok and worth playing. But at normal price, I'd stay away.

Silverfall: Complete

Mostly Solid, Enjoyable Game

This game is decent and there really aren't too many glitches. I did have the game crash on me a few times that seemed to be bunched together -- maybe it was when I was in certain areas. The gameplay takes a bit to get used to and is fun while you're learning and improving. It does get a bit monotonous and repetitive at times though. The story is ok, but not great (don't want to give out any spoilers). I personally found the crafting aspect to be pretty much useless and wish I had not spent any of my skill points in crafting as it would have let me level my magic, combat, and race skills more.

Wizardry 8

One of my favorites

I loved this game. I remember taking a bit of time to get used to the combat system, but definitely not too long. I really enjoyed this game all the way to the end. I do remember being frustrated at times, but I can't remember why. Whatever those frustrations were, they didn't keep me from finishing. I would rate this game in my top ten RPGs of all time.
