Victor Vran: Motörhead - Through the Ages

Righteous Stuff! Motorhead and Vran!

If you like ARPGs and you like Motorhead, you should buy this. If you love ARPGs and you're not really into Motorhead, it's a good ARPG with a lot of full blazing action. If you've not a fan of ARPGs (or only like them once in a while) but you love Motorhead, you need to give this a try. The pounding Motorhead soundtrack pushes you through as you run through a world based on Motorhead's album covers, lyrics, etc. Lemmy lives on in this adventure as the legendary character he has become. Just before he passed into legend (Really, Lemmy can't really die. He's Lemmy) Lemmy worked with these developers to create this game. It's not a perfect game by any means, and it is quite difficult. You will be killed (by Death) often, so don't forget to save constantly. I need to admit-the main reason I bought Victor Vran was for this add-on. Even without the base game, this is Motorhead! What else can be said? This game is righteous stuff. It's hard though, so your blood pressure will go up like prices at Christmas when you play it. It's a great ARPG with a pounding soundtrack of Motorhead Magic.

TRON 2.0

More than worthy of its legacy!

Greetings Programs! If you are a fan of Tron, first person games which have plenty of shooting but also require a lot of thinking and planning, have ever dreamed of going into the Grid or speeding around on a lightcycle, you need this. At the mere click of a mouse on an icon, you can be beamed into Tron's world and enter a story that is definitely equal to the movie sequel of Tron. This game has an incredible atmosphere that recreates a world much like the first Tron movie, and lets you walk around in the world as you battle against enemies in the computer world. The voice acting is excellent and includes the voices of Alan and Yori/Laura from the original film, Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan. Boxleitner is playing Alan, and, as for Cindy, just play the game. I don't want to give away any spoilers. The graphics were amazing when the game was released, and they still look fantastic today. The controls are intuitive, and they can be customized if you want. The game also starts with an excellent tutorial to get you ready to exist in The Grid. Once you get through the tutorial, you will get so absorbed into the game world and the story, you will truly experience Tron in a new way. Of course there are lightcycles, recognizers, bits, and other Tron regulars, as well as new things to explore. Even if you have never seen Tron, the game is certainly well worth playing. I would recommend, however, watching the movie if you haven't for full effect. Enjoy your time in the Grid. End of line.

STAR WARS™: Rogue Squadron 3D

Arcade flight at its finest

This game has such excellent arcade flight, you may find yourself wanting to pump quarters into your computer. Another great thing about the game is that is incredibly compact if, like me, you have limited hard drive space. I initially thought the number of under 50 megabytes must be a misprint, but it's not. The game is very well put together to make the best use of a small amount of space. You will fly many ships in many battles, and in most of them, you can even use first-person cockpit view. Unlike the early X-Wing and Tie-Fighter games, the cockpit bounces and jumps as you fly the ship. When this game was announced, I was elated. Prior to this game, there was another set of games called Rebel Assault. Those were combination interactive movie/rail shooter/galaga-type arcade games, but you didn't really get to control the ships. Mostly you just pointed and shot. When Rogue Squadron was announced, I warily picked it up on sale. As soon as I put it in, I thought to myself "Now that's what RA should have been!" No rails at all, just missions and flight. In this game, you will get to fly X-Wings, A-Wings, Speeders, and even at least one vehicle from the prequels. The missions really make you feel like you're Luke Skywalker taking on The Empire. Some of the missions can be very challenging, especially if you use the set cameras. For example, in the first mission it is extremely difficult in 3rd person "arcade" view. Hit F8, though, and you will find yourself in the cockpit of the ship, and it will be a lot easier. It's good to play around with the camera angles to make the best ones work for you. Enjoy!

STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic

This is the ultimate Star Wars RPG.

This game has probably one of the best stories in the history of the series. It's right there with the best of the movies and definitely deserves to be canon. It takes place thousands of years before the movies, but it is so well written that it seems to explain a lot of what you see in those movies. It, along with the classic movies, is one of the stories you shouldn't miss. The role playing game system really seems to successfully emulate tabletop gaming, complete with dice rolls and classic tabletop rules, while at the same time blending in action and moving at a rapid pace. You start by rolling up a character, then you enter the world of Star Wars seamlessly. Every decision you make, from what to focus on when rolling up your character to how you play your part affects the rest of the world and the game. Would you like to be a Jedi savior and do wonderful things in the name of the Light Side? Your actions will move you in the proper direction. If you are nice and try to save people, you will go to the light side. Would you like to be a dark Jedi? (Note: Dark Jedi are not called Sith in this world, as the Sith are something else entirely. Play the game and you'll see what they are.) Do as much damage as you can, kill enemies you can choose to spare, and do as many dark deeds as you can, and you will go to the Dark Side. The other characters you meet in the game all seem alive, and they all have believable motives to do what they do. You will learn to care about some and hate others, but they will definitely seem real. The game may make you laugh, cry, jump in fear, and fall out of your chair in surprise. If you want your own piece of the Star Wars Universe, or if you want to remember the feeling of playing Star Wars paper-and-pencil role playing games until the wee hours of the morning, this game is just what you need.
