It's not a review per se - it's more a warning about a game feature that not mentioned in the description. There IS a limit to number of turn you have in each mission. Devs think it's adds a sense of urgency to the game. In my humble opinion, limiting turns means only 1 thing: AI sucks big & devs cannot do anything about it. So to hide this fact, they make additional problem to the player. I'm not buying games with any kind of time or turns limit - but it is only me. Each one to his own.
Yes, its ugly (compared to 2017 tiles), buggy and very dark. But it is the greatest Lovecraftian horor game available. Atmosphere is superb, story pace is fast enough, and the long, tense & intentionally awkward race against death on rooftops of the city will remain in your memory for a looong time... If you love Lovecraft stories or horror genre - buy this game. It DEFINITELY worth it.
You wanted a game about Golden Age of pirates of Caribbean? With a sane plot, sea battles, boarding fights, good quests, simple but not stupid leveling system? You got it here. It's not a "cinematographic dynamic action" like Assassin's Creed - Black Flag, it's not a hardcore simulator of naval battles and sword/musket combat, it's a fine middle line between these two. And this is definitely the best game in the "Corsairs" series, truly a game "made by gamers for gamers". I outspokenly recommend it to all fans of "pirate games".
This is "smart FPS" or, if you prefer that way, Action-RPG. Yes, it is not vey big by today's standards, but it is still good. One of the best features of this game - you have to make choices - and they ARE matter! No joke - if you do one quest before it's appointed time, you will lose the game! And it is in first 30 minutes of play :) Controls and inventory system are simple but effective - you have different kind of ammo for some of your guns and you even have your own artifact (so no, DOOM 3 was not original with it's artifact). Another one of the interesting features of this game is it's stealth system. You do not need to kill everything in sight (in fact, you better not to even try it). Some of enemies do not aware of your identity and you can walk in plain sight of them - untill you cross "the red line" or start shooting. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to oldschool players or just "smart FPS" lovers. Keep in mind that this is "augmented edition", made by the talented enthusiast in 2014. It runs perfectly on modern rigs & have some fully implemented new features, including a multiplayer "Capture the Chalice" game mode, dynamic objective markers on the automap, and some others.
Well, I'm russian but I need to tell you straight: do NOT buy this game. It's very, very weak. I'll not going to explain all the struggle behind this game's development, sufices to say "it's complicated". And the product shows it. The design is very uneven, some parts of the game feels all right, some just demands unintall. When and If GOG releases Isle Of Lost Ships - oh, THAT's the game in Corsairs' series that everyone pirate-themed games fan really needs to buy. Untll then I recommend to play Sid Meier's Pirates. And let the Lady Fortune will be with you!
