The gameplay itself is a third person action/adventure game with an emphasis in exploring the massive levels and finding new items that let you explore unreachable areas, meaning that this game, naturally, has a lot of backtracking in a Metroidvania kind of way. The way and order you want to progress is absolutely non-linear, also shared from the Metroidvania genre. This game OOZES atmosphere, from the cool character design of Mike/ShadowMan, the awesome voice acting, the haunting and yet beautiful soundtrack (except that one part... wich is just plain creepy...), this game can also invoke a sense of grandeour and wonder that few other games can. It's easy to get lost on the massive and sprawling levels and it's easy to lose track on where you need to go and what to do, the combat system is kinda wonky and VERY repetitive, also, this game not only has a great support for the 360 controller, but it's also a MUST, this game was designed with a controller in mind and it's meant to be played with one, so you'll be wrestling with it a lot if you decide to play it with the good ol' M+KB. Overall, despite it's shortcomings, this game is just a LOT of fun, I played it in 3 different platforms (PS1, N64, PC), and this is absolutely the best version of them all. Just a little word of advise, this game is very dark... both figuratively and literally, you need to ramp up the gamma/brightness a notch or two. Highly recommendable.
