As a game this product doesnt do anything special. Simple shooting mechanics, light RPG elements, somewhat linear gameplay, easy difficulty (I played on extreme and I cant call it anything, but medium difficulty) and the story is only suited to those who are familiar with the franchise, specifically. the first 2 movies. But boy, what an experience it was. The soundtrack was great, set the tone perfectly. The visuals arent anything special, neither is the artwork, but they work were well to give the feeling of the dystopian future setting. I enjoyed the characters, got immersed in my role and had a good time going through this adventure. And thats what was important. There isnt much replay value beyond the 8 hours it took me to beat the game, but that is fine. So summary, if you are a fan of the first 2 movies, this is a must. If you have no idea about the Terminator franchise, especially the first 2 movies, dont bother at all.
A quick time event game, where you progress through the story by clicking buttons with directions or the space bar during quick time events. Concept is simple, but thre are gripes. Namely, since this was originally conceived as an arcade game where you put quarters in, it is designed in such a way that unless you have unnaturally good reflexes you are bound to lose without knowing the layout of the game beforehand. The decision-making time for some of the markers is so short its ridiculous. I played the game with highlighting assistance, but even then its was quite difficult for someone new to this. I rewatched the Space Ace episode after completing it and I didnt remeber some of the scenes as I was too busy watching direction indicators. Dragons Lair 2 is much more fair on the timeframes you can use and seems more balanced for an enjoyable experience where you have a chance to beat the game within one go if youre reactions are good. While I enjoyed the animations and it was refreshing to see a feminine character that flirts with you/ is your love interest, instead of the modern strong female bullshit, the gameplay doesnt offer much after youve beaten it, except for trying to improve upon your reactions/score. Considering its 30-40 years old, it seems a bit too pricy for what it offers in todays gaming climate, even at half cost. I glad I tried it out to see how games were back in the day and the animations look stunning even by todays standarts. But remeber, this was designed to make people flock to the machine and drop money into it and you will notice that very strongly in the gameplay. It wasnt desgined to be "fun".
So what do you need to know. This is an FPS, thats over 20 years old. It wasnt designed for the PC, meaning, the controls here are quite bad. If you are like me and missed the old console era of games and have no feel for it, you will have a hard time both fighting the enemies and, whats a lot more problematic, navigating the place. I played this for an hour, but there were so many times I was confused as to where I am when navigating corridors or being in rooms. Plus the ingame map isnt much help either. Whoever says the controls are like old school shooters is lying as they are clearly worse here. What I did enjoy is that you do not need to reload weapons and just use the total ammo you have. The atmosphere is nice, the soundtrack is good, the graphics are as alright as they can be for a game this old, it has an interesting story/plot. Story is told through ghosts that say "shoot me"(?), need to wait until they start showing small cutscenes. I would have liked to gone through this and get all the details, it seems quite rich in atmosphere, but this would have taken me a lot more than I would have found entertaining at this stage of my life. Maybe someone who has a lot more time, a lot more appreciation, a lot more skill in there type of games than I would like it a lot more, but I would rather try something else.
While this game occupies a significant place from my childhood memories and I was very happy to see it on GOG, I must admit its a lot rougher around the edges than I remember it. I used to play this quite a bit back in the day and wanted to go through it again to see how the memories hold up. I must admit, not as good as I hoped. The game design revolves around completing stages set in the Dysney Hercules movie and getting small cutscenes from the movie once completed. The game is divided into two stages, one where you have a 2d-ish platformer environment and another where you need to run along a path regulating your speed and movement to progress. Check screenshots for reference. The atmosphere is nice and colourful even at the more darker areas. Music might get repetetive if you stay too long on a level, but that will mostly be the case if you are trying to get every possible collectible. Graphics were blurry on my monitor, but I guess thats to be expected with a game like this. The level design is built in a way that you are very likely to get beaten by not knowing how the situation develops. Enemies hit you almost out of nowhere and instantly, so that you can barely react to it all. Maneuvering isnt particularly comfortable either. I also get the impression that dodging some of the obstacles appears almost impossible, but maybe im just shit at this. I also had some graphical glitch, where part of the screen was gray. It didnt affect gameplay, but still. For the nostalgia, it was worth it. I got my hour of gameplay, used a walkthrough so as to not suffer needlesly trying to "figure it out by myself" as I got better things to do. But if you are new to this and have never played this before I would recommend you try something else. You know how they sometimes make games that tie into movies to get more out of a franchise? This is it. It is not bad (especially for its day), but by no means is it great either. Keep that in mind when considering the purchase.
An action packed tactical strategy game. At the begining of every mission you are given a group of units to accomplish your tasks, ranging from infantry to tanks, copters and artillery. Some have a limited number of abilities that you can use. You need to manage them in a way that will allow you to defeat you enemy. The is no base building or resource management. I cant say that the strategy aspect is anything incredible by todays standards, but it works. What really makes this game stand out is the production values. The voice acting, sound, graphcis, large ammount of detail. The whole game is action packed. Now, this isnt exactly the best example of a strategy game, you wont be planning anything and more trying to think on your feet. However, the quality of the product is such that I cant fault it for being what it is. Its not the best of strategy games, but its a very good game. If you want an action packed strategy experience with high production values, its a must. If you like building, planning and expanding, then this game is not about that.
The game tells you the story of Vito Scaletta trying to make it in life as a member of the mob. An interesting rag to criminal riches story with nice gameplay and a pretty world, filled with a nice variety of cars and weapons. Soundtrack is nice as well. It isnt without its faults though. The world isnt entirely open world and it is pretty empty, as in, there isnt really anything worth doing in it. The game was also intened to be 20+ chapters instead of the around 15 you will get. That could explain why the world might be somewhat empty. You will also be quite surprised by the amount of cops there is in the city. Wont be able to drive 10 seconds without coming near some cops on the streets. And the DLC ...... its simply abysmal. In Joes adventure you can see in the begining the they tried making it at the same level as the game itself, but then its as if a manager came in and said:"scratch this story heavy bullshit, were going to make this DLC about raking up points and having highscores". Since there are no achievements in GOG, there is absolutely no point I can see for people to waste time on it. Avoid the DLC. Overall, a good game. For one playthrough deffinetely worth it. (Played the steam copy)
Own this on Steam, played a lot of it. This is how RPGs should be made. Its simply awesome. If you like tales of people and their journeys, you owe it to yourself to try this. Only reason Im not giving it 4 stars is that they never bothered to fix the bugs in the steam version (there are qutie a few quest breaking bugs as well even in the ultiamte edition) and Im not sure how it here.
I first played the game over 20 years ago when I was a small kid. Only now I understand that it wasnt really meant for kids, despite the colourful setting. )) The game has an interesting story, good atmosphere, nice characters. It captures a certain fell of the early 90's. Puzzles were a bit confusing and tedious at times, but generally ok. I must admit, I cheated by using a walkthrough on the later part of the game as I just wanted to finish this to resolve my curiousity from back then. The part I disliked the most was the ending. I think that part will be disliked by most. However, I would recommended playing this if youre a puzzle fan, like adventurous stories and dont mind the somewhat dated visuals.
One of the few games that I simply love. A FPS with RPG elements, it has a nice story, great charcters, awesome enviromnets, varied enemies, huge variety of weapons and one of the best soundtracks I have seen in a game. It is different than the first one, so for those who have played the first one be prepared for something different. Ive played both and while I like the first one, I simply love the second. Story end with kind of a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that. But hey, if youre in a mood for a thrill ride, you have found it.
