Two Worlds II: Epic Edition

I've played better, but bought 3 times

So, this game was fun. Mostly the actual gameplay is entertaining, and the graphics are decent. Some of the voice acting is... Uh... Not good. Mostly all the NPCs are well done, but the lead character is trying SO hard to sound cool, with his gravelly voice and deadpan mood, that it's hard to take very seriously. I dunno - if you ever watched "Predators" with Adrien Brody, you'll understand what I'm talking about. I found myself rolling my eyes virtually every time the PC talks. The combat is good fun, the world is definitely open, and I like that (always), but some of the stuff you fight is just silly. Ostriches? Really? OSTRICHES? C'mon man. Still, after all my bad mouthing, I've bought this game 3 times now from different retailers. It's worth the buy, and worth playing, and at the end of the day, I quite enjoyed it.

Dishonored - Definitive Edition

Amazing, original, unique, beautiful

So, they went all out making this game. It's very serious-minded, and is one of the best Stealth Game ideas I've ever seen. The story is rich, the game play excellent, and while it's relatively linear (I'm an open world game fan), the gameplay is simply so awesome that it was hard to care. Your character can turn into a rat to get through small places, can virtually teleport behind enemies to stealth attack them from behind, the graphics, voice acting, and characters are all well done, and the atmosphere is one-of-a-kind. If you like stealth games, put this on your list.

Fort Triumph

Decent game - Buy it on sale

Game play = Ye olde turn-based strategy game with a bit of a twist. Knockback is a major part of causing damage to the enemies. Graphics = Pleasant. No complaints here. Cartoony, but that's the mood of the game anyhow. Character Development = Lacking. I like funny, but the humor is forced. Lacks wit, and spoils the battle scenes for me.

We Happy Few

Good Game Play - Whiny Main Character

I enjoy open world stealth combat games, and We Happy Few is just such a game. The stealth portions of the game remind me of Splinter Cell - excellent, tense, clever. Very enjoyable. The story line is decent; no complaints there. The harvesting and crafting portions of the game are simpler than Elder Scrolls games, but that's not really a bad thing. It keeps the focus on game play rather than crafting (though the crafting portion of things is still a moderate portion of the game). Lots of puzzle stuff, trying to figure out how to get from point A to point B, so it's not just sneaking around or fighting. They focused heavily on story telling, which can be very entertaining if you have a good story. And while the main story line is quite good, and the voice acting is expert...the whiny main character is killing me. Every time I knock out some guard, self-pitying Arthur (the main character we play) asks them for forgiveness. Sometimes after a fight, he laments what the world is coming to. And I appreciate the idea, but the guy's so...whiny, is all. He's constantly woe-is-me about his situation, which is certainly understandable, but in the midst of high tension, anxious stealth game play, it sucks the vigor out of me. Honestly, it's a great game, and if you like a good open world, harvesting, crafting, intelligent levels, periodic puzzles, decent and unique graphics, good base story line and challenging combat game, then We Happy Few is a great choice. But you will have to put up with a whiner. (Maybe its just me, by the way. It may simply be a pet peeve that's interfering with my personal ability to give this game a 5 star rating - and his self-pity may simply inspire sympathy from you, and you'll love it. It's my one complaint.)

Kingdom: New Lands Royal Edition

A Game for Intelligent People

This game comes with a learning curve. It's discovery at its best. It takes time to explore and figure out what does what in the game, and each time you play, you'll get a bit further than you did the time before. Finding where your limits are, and how far you can push them, developing an understanding of how to use various items as you go - it was really, really fun. As you figure out what you're doing, it's rewarding, and I couldn't help but look forward to figuring out what another little doo-dad would do. It's a tower defense style game, and a careful balance of a pressing need to expand while also juggling not expanding too much too quickly. I enjoyed this game, and couldn't believe how such a simple looking game could be so engrossing. I played this for hours and hours - and couldn't wait to get back and try again. Great game! Very clever! A game for intelligent people.

Craft The World

Addictive - can't stop playing...(GOTTA go to bed now though)

An addictive game for intelligent people who are interested in figuring out what the world is through game play. A slow climb from nothing to uber! I've sunk 20+ hours into this game, and only just gotten to level 3. The Each level comes with new stuff to discover, but the old stuff you've already learned remains useful. Game designers! Ya'll need to work on the AI. You developed some STUPID dwarves! (But, this adds to the challenge, and a clever player - if you're clever - discovers and implements workarounds.) I love this game. Sorta Minecraft, sorta Terraria, sorta Dwarf Fortress, but none of the above. It is its own, but in the same genre as those others. I don't usually post reviews. Not a big believer in them - and yet, here I am, handing out 5 stars. Oh, the game is clean. Nothing a parent would need to worry about (unless killing periodic sheep and chickens is offensive. They don't fight back.)

Unepic

Fun, exactly what I hoped for.

Too much fun! Clever, intelligent and witty. If you've ever played a tabletop RPG, this is great. I say, great.

FTL: Advanced Edition

Fun!

Simple idea, addictive gameplay. One of the few games I just keep going back to again and again.

BLACKHOLE: Complete Edition Upgrade

Cheated

Complete Edition Upgrade? Doesn't that mean that the Complete Addition wasn't quite complete? I hate feeling suckered into buying something (like a 'Complete Addition') and THEN finding out that it's NOT complete. It's a betrayal of trust, like working with a slimy used car salesman. If you're going to sell something as 'complete' it had better be complete. If you decide to then create an upgrade (which you shouldn't be, because you'd already completed the thing, as noted in the title) then it should be free. Which STILL means it wasn't complete, but at least we'd not feel cheated. I will not invest in this, and I hope that others will boycott too so that the idea of selling additional add-on content after announcing that it's already got all the goodies will be a cosmic flop.
