Distant Worlds: Universe

Getting hooked.

This is the first 4x style game I've really gotten involved with in a long time. The developers have done a great job with the customization options which allow me to create almost the exact style of game I want..and the automation options help a lot so I never feel overwhelmed. Also, the DW Extended Universe mod adds even more races and a nicer UI....which makes the game even better. I got my copy during a huge sale and it was clearly worth that price. Not sure about $60 though.

Guns, Gore & Cannoli

Guns and gangsters. Love it.

I really like this game. The developers put a lot of care into it and it shows. The art style; voice acting; and combat are really well done. And the 1920's is one of my favorite time periods..so a plus there too. A real good side scrolling shooter. I'm looking forward to GG&C 2.

Project Zomboid

Pass. Sadly.

I like a good survival horror, and this game had the atmosphere down. However, I found the controls clunky...and the combat extremely boring. Luckily, I was able to get a refund....thanks GOG.

Dead Age

I'm liking what I see.

I just played through the tutorial to make sure the game worked and get an overall feel of it. I really do like it. The mechanics were explained well and I'm sure I'll enjoy it once I dedicate time to it. And since it's on sale at this price, I'd say grab it if you like turn based/survival games.

Weedcraft Inc

A good start...but no sandbox.

I've only played a little of the game, but I feel I'm going to enjoy it. I like the art style and humor is spot on. The devs really care about this game and it shows. But, a sim/tycoon style game like this has got to have a sandbox mode from the beginning, and this game doesn't. That's a sin in my book.

Grim Dawn

Decent.

I've had this game for quite awhile and play it often. I've completed it through the AoM dlc and really enjoyed the story. I love the dark/gritty feel of the world and the creatures that are encountered. Also, I think the loot filter tool is great and the fact that you can combine two classes to make a more unique character is good as well. The celestial/devotion system is nice and provides extra buffs/abilites. NIcely done there. HOWEVER, I've come to realize that the devs have either never heard of or don't care about the term "less is more". This game has way, WAY too many stats. Damange stats, debuff stats, buff stats, stats for this, and stats for that. This is a hack/slash game...not an MMO. Some of these stats are seperated for reasons I cannot understand (fire and burn for example). Also, the devotion system will only allow for 55 points to be spent. That's a very stingy amount. Sadly, another gripe I have is that out of all stats, the resists seem to count the most, so I'm always saying: GET RSIST UP! This counts even more when you start a new playthrough on harder difficulties because the devs thought it was okay to decrease your resists accordingly. So I take time to find gear and bufffs to raise my resists, just so the devs can take it away...lol. WHO....THOUGHT....OF.....THAT? The grindiness is painful and not fun (unlike Diablo 3 RoS) Lastly, because of these problems I have restorted to using a mod or two...just for some rebalancing and removing the painful grind. I just purchased the Forgotten Gods dlc and starting with a new toon without mods to see how far I can get before the pain sets in. If you like these kinds of games, I' d stil recommend it, just wait for a good sale, like I did.

Circle Empires

Good, casual game.

Not a bad little game for the price. There are higher difficulties for those that want more challenge. I only have the "impossible" difficulty left. I really had to watch myself on "nightmare" mode, and "normal" was still a bit easy. Regardless, if you want to get a quick RTS KILL! KILL! KILL! fix on, this game will do it.

DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition

A good effort.

The developer made a nice little game. It's creepy, weird, unique, and grabbed my attention right away. I got it free from GOG, so I just installed and started playing. I'm not a fan of puzzles, but these puzzles were......okay. However, I'm NOT a fan of backtracking, and it's necessary to solve many of these puzzles. It's for that reason that I haven't finished the game yet. But, I plan to. I'd still recommend it, the developer clearly put a lot of effort and care into it.

Judgment: Apocalypse Survival Simulation - Desert Edition

So far...so good.

I only played for an hour or so to get the basics down..and I can see that this game has a lot to offer. Involved and varied combat; skill system; missions; and a world map that seems huge with tons of exploration. I'm looking forward to playing more.

Banished

Good, except for.................

Like others have said this game IS really good. It's harsh and unforgiving which will keep you on your toes. However, I found it quite annoying that a small group trying to survive in the wild and make a new life should be gulping down heaps of food whenever it's available. If anything, they should be eating just enough to make it. I've had a small community go through a truck load of fish and herbs in no time. Unless the fish were guppies they should've lasted much longer. Also, it would be helpful to have updates on how the community is progressing displayed on screen. I'd say wait for sale, like I did, and grab it.
