Gangland

GTA-Gangsters hybrid? No such luck

The best way to look at Gangland is as an experiment: taking elements from RTS, RPG and SIM genre games in an attempt to provide you with a "better than GTA"-game. Sadly enough that only applies to the arcade-style GTA(/London) and GTA2 games. Gangland is too lacking to compare with GTA3 and it's successors. Obviously focussed on multiplayer this game's singleplayer mode feels more like an add-on than the main portion of the game. Add to that the uninspiring, repetative voice-acting, slow to respond camera movement and a-dime-a-dozen missions and you're not left with much of a game. Which is quite sad as it did have potential to be fun. But as is, you're better off waiting untill the Gangsters or GTA series comes along on GOG. This game isn't worth the bother,

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Deluxe

Simple enjoyment

Rollercoaster tycoon was the first sim-game I bought for the pc, way back now.... In all that time though it's been one of my favorite games ever made. Not for the graphics, though they're quite nice actually. Not for the music, though it's quite good. Not even for the dream of owning an amusement park. It's all that combined with the awesome game-play. You start out with some $/€/etc. 10.000 loan in a park, then you get to turn whatever it might have been into a booming business. Players get challenged though, especially if you don't know what you're doing. The main objective is to earn a lot of money by making your park a success: Add rides, roads, ques and scenery. Research new stuff, advertise, buy new land or at least get permission to build there. Design the tracks for several kinds of rides, not just the titular ones. Manage staff from handymen to gardeners, from entertainers in mascot-suits to security. Handle personnel and visitors with impunity, pick them up, drop them, confound them by denying an exit from the park or send them to their deaths (O_O) with a badly designed ride. All in all, RC Tycoon had all this to offer on it's own, but GOG includes the expansion packs, adding tons of extra parks, new features and improvements. Considering the price vs addiction level this is a must-buy-or-die game you shouldn't be without.

Dungeon Keeper™ 2

Great game,but crashes

I love Dungeon Keeper 1 and have always regretted that I no longer could play it's sequal. Though not as great as it's predecessor it was fun to play. So when GOG put it into their catalogue I almost immediately bought it. It installed just fine, it's fun to play... Yet it crashes at random on Vista. Clicking on the tab for mission info, a cutscene loading, soundclips loading or just zooming in/out can trigger these crashes it seems. So I have mixed feelings about this GOG release: it's an awesome game to be sure, but the random crashing drops the score like nobody's business.
