Here I am. All those 5-star reviews made me give it a go. Oh, boy were those misleading... Let's put it this way, the car behaviour is rather erratic and sluggish at best. It either turns around the corner nicely if you keep tapping the key, but if you hold down the turn key for tenth of a second too long, you end up hitting a wall or falling off track due to a power-slide that you cannot correct or control, no matter what you do. Somewhat off-putting, as a racing game either lives or dies by its controls. And I found out the controls on this one are fairly weak, to put it nicely. If you liked P.O.D. "back in the day" and wish to relive that experience, this is for you. Others, you may want to consider carefully between this and other options.
I got this game on Steam some time ago, and I can say I have never regretted the investment. This game is full of guns, aliens, secret rooms and well-paced action to keep you entertained for hours. A major difference to the Alien Shooter 1 is that your character now gains experience and levels, and with each level you get to enhance your attributes for more health, accuracy, speed, strength or intelligence, and a special ability which you choose in the beginning of game, and which vary from finding extra money to regenerating health and several others. To further enhance your abilities you can purchase special implants that boost your skills and stats so that you can move faster, do more damage, carry more and take more punishment from the aliens. The weapons vary from a simple nailgun to big pistols, massive miniguns, laser miniguns, rocket launchers and energy weapons, all suited for different styles of play. The selection is staggering. To reduce the damage you take you can buy suits of body armour which also affect the appearance of your character, depending what type of armour it is. Miscellaneous utilities and tools include flashloghts, night vision goggles, medical kits, attack drones and a scanner, and some other bits. The gameplay is quite fun, with some outdoor driving levels where you drive an armoured car with a machine gun and mow down massive hordes of aliens. So if you loved Alien Shooter 1, you will love this even more! And even the price won't break the bank, at $5.99
There are a lot of action shooters out there, but what it comes to this game, I have had it for quite a while, and never gotten bored of it. Everything just feels right. The controls, the difficulty, the graphics... It is difficult to describe. I just love it and the entertainment it brings. There is nothing quite as fun as unleashing a hail of bullets at a rapidly approaching wall of alien scum, and nothing quite as satisfying as seeing them being splattered all over the walls before your weapons. The controls feel simple and they are easy to get comfortable with, after which the fun begins... You have a choice of 2 different characters, a male which is tougher and stronger but a bit slow and inaccurate, and a female who is not quite tough as her male counterpart, but what she lacks in brawn she makes up for movement speed and accuracy. Characters have 4 different attributes such as Health, Strength, Speed and Accuracy which you can upgrade by finding hidden implants from the levels or buying them from the shop between levels. Of course, this would not be much of a game without tools of destruction, eh? Well, let's just say you aren't going to make very far with just your twin pistols with infinite ammunition. You will need something a little bit more substantial to push trough the horde of aliens. Your first real upgrade is the pump-action shotgun which is an improvement, allowing you to kill multiple enemies at once. The next toy in line is a grenade launcher, extremely inaccurate but very effective for groups. The next weapon you will be one of the most useful ones, a minigun that can rain death upon your enemies at a terrifying rate at the cost of ammunition. After that you have a rocket launcher, which does pack quite a wallop but lacks in firing rate. After that we will get to the more exotic weapons such as freeze gun that freezes enemies and blocks others, plasma rifle that causes splash damage, flamethrower that can burn trough large groups of weak enemies and the representation of the pinnacle of military small arms technology, the almighty magma minigun that rains molten death upon anything unfortunate enough in it's path. You might say this is a bit of an overkill what it comes to weapons, but you WILL need all that firepower you are bestowed or you will quickly find yourself torn into ribbons in the later levels. Yes, it WILL get VERY tough, as you need to think fast and shoot even faster because the aliens know no mercy and will walk over you if you aren't giving it all you've got. Other tools that you can buy to enhance your chances of survival are combat drones, medikits, suits of armour, flash light, night vision and extra lives. Level design is more than adequate, there are a lot of places to explore and there are secret rooms hidden almost everywhere which you can use to your advantage. Missions vary between killing all aliens, destroying structures on a map, or turning on generators to open security doors. There is also a survival mode where you are in an open area and fight increasingly tougher waves of enemies until you die. Bottom line is that you should not miss this game if you like action games! Alien/Zombie Shooter series are excellent entertainment and great value for money.
