Flotsam

Enjoyable relaxing city building game

Build a collection floating buildings to manage your small colony (raft) of survivors. The feel of this game is a relaxed, peaceful float through a colourful world of cartoon graphics. Pleasant background music and (as of the access) a complete lack of any threat or real challenge will suit people with a spare hour or two who just want to bob around on a series of virtual ocean maps, occasionally wondering if they will run out of food. I imagine it's quite suitable for all ages. Currently (Sep 2019, early access) The core of the content will take a seasoned gamer around 30 minutes to complete, with all aspects achievable in a couple of hours (set to speed on max). The research tree has minimal effect on the game and there is no objective point to doing anything much in this game, although nominal objectives are set for each map. The characters will happily go about their task and even on maximum speed I found my self letting the game idle for the majority of my play through. That said I enjoyed the first hour and will be intrigued how this sandbox, with extremely minimal content, will be developed. The early access runs extremely well with no bugs.

Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG

Still in Alpha - Amazing potential

The game has a distinct Bioshock feel crossed with the early isometric Fall Out games. Dystopian cyber-punk mixed with 1970's themes. If you liked Wasteland then this will probably be right up your alley. The game's scope is ambitious, with heavily customizable character creation, back stories heavily influencing the plot, competing factions who you can influence and gain favor, decisions influencing the world with and much more. The world is rich in law and the story telling is quite good. Currently (Sep 2019) this game is mostly unplayable; 85% of the skills are locked as not developed in game yet; early critical quests are impossible to complete and even the feedback mechanism to report bugs is inoperable. This has the makings of an amazing 5 star game; but right now either pass until further development, or be content that you're testing a future game as much as you're playing a current one. Keep in mind this team did Divinity Original Sin; so there is little doubt this game will be worth while indeed.

Stories: The Path of Destinies

Fantastic story and scenery; buggy game

A combination of Dust: An Elysian Tail and Bard's tale the story is fantastic, the game play frenetic and fun and the scenery picturesque and beautiful. All these positive's don't make up for the bugs and lag in this game. Getting stuck in terrain, enemies getting trapped behind wall preventing progression and load times akin to 56k dial up modem era. If your love for a well told story in scenic landscapes, outweigh your intolerance of having to restart a game over and over to get past glitches and bugs, then you'll love this game (truly). If not then perhaps wait until a patch or be prepared to ask for a refund. Caveat emptor.
