It's actually the comic art style, that attracted my attention. This was the reason, why I bought this game, but there is so much more than meets the eye. I really like, how the world map and events are handled. It makes so much fun to explore the world, chasing a dream, your own hero aging 10 years more, than the others... your archer getting crow wings and all other stuff, that you usually imagine getting in a real life table top. What I did not expect is the tactical battles to be this much fun. I think your party members, especially magicians seem a little overpowered, but their "intefuse" action to interact with level objects delivers various tactics to choose of. I think that after the first campaign, I only saw the tip of the iceberg. Very promising and I am wanting more of it... good thing there is an editor.
The graphics look pretty neat, I really love that comic style. But I am afraid that's about all, the game is able to give. Pretty much everything in this game is either bad or not at all explained, so most of the time I had no clue what I am doing... grab 3 crystals to charge long range engine? Why bother, just use some of my supply of 700 and more energy to do that via control menu of the ship. Or just use the map and travel there for energy costs... The scenario reminds me of Subnautica, but the execution is totally different and gameplay wise not in a good way, I am afraid. After 3 hours I am stuck in the underwater city, because there are 3 small maps and I don't have a clue how to proceed on either one of them...
When I play fantasy RPGs, I want to dive in the lore. I want to feel like living in this authentic world. For now I have to say, that Black Geyser does NOT DELIVER this feeling. I did not play as long, as I usually would, before rating a game... it's just that I have a hard time taking this world for real, since there is only little effort in trying to give a authentic feel. First off the companions: you don't need to put in any effort to recruit them. It's like they are waiting in line just to get picked up. The dwarf you meet at this bloody crime scene?! Why not taking him in your party after the first hollow phrase?! I just met you at this bloody mess, but wanna be friends?! Okay... And this continues for the following companions. Very immersion breaking after all... but actually it cannot break an immersion, that has never been there from minute one... I would actually give it 2,5 out of 5, since they really managed to create a game, that totally feels like Baldur's Gate... with all the unconfy controls, that are just not contemporary any more and have not been the last 20 years. It finally gets 3 out of 5, because I backed this on Kickstarter ;)
