Avernum 2: Crystal Souls

Microscopic torture

These torturous Avernum games are the same torture of struggling to see the tiny 2 pixel characters without a microscope while dying and reloading the game every 10 minutes in an endless loop of agony. The player misses at least 95% of all attacks melee, ranged and magic while getting hit by 100% of enemy attacks including acid spray that can wipe out a party in 1 or 2 turns. The monsters never miss, they are nearly impossible to ever hit, and they have literally thousands of hitpoints so it takes around 20 minutes to kill one group if you don't die in an endless loop of attack - miss - get hit - heal - get burned by acid or fire - then attack again and miss - get hit - etc. I play my other games with no reloading and enjoy the immersion. But in Avernum your party gets wiped out over & over & over & over so you reload or uninstall - only 2 choices. The developers hate the player and want to torture us for buying these Avernum torture games. They are not really games cause you are are not allowed to play them.

Avernum: Escape From the Pit

Die & die again simulator.

This is ridiculous. Other than the rats at the start, every enemy group is at least 50 times stronger than the weak, fragile party you are supposed to use. The slith lizardmen can one-shot kill the party members but it takes over 20 minutes of healing, attacking and missing again to wear down the massive amount of hitpoints a single slith has if you can heal fast enough to slow down how fast your party is killed off and if your hit rate of about 5% is enough to kill off the slith before you die of boredom and rage. Constant reloads are necessary which I hate to do cause it eliminates all immersion. Or keep running from the sliths and your dead party members automatically spring to life when the tiny clunky boat makes it back to the town. If you like dying, reloading, running, missing, repeating the same agonizing heal spell endlessly until your priest is killed, and grinding off miniscule bits of enemy hitpoints for what feels like an eternity with a 5% hit rate, then buy this game, and make sure you enjoy the endless loop of dragging your dead back to town to spring back to life over & over & over & over & over & over & over. If you actually want to play a game. avoid this torture. Obviously it was not play-tested even once and this garbage was thrown out to the crowd as a cash grab to annoy and frustrate the fools who buy it so the "developer" can have a cheap giggle at us.

Sid Meier's Civilization IV®: The Complete Edition

buggy and broken

it won't install The installation failure error just says E9 and won't give any details. I wasted my money on this and gog has no refund policy. I made a big mistake buying on gog. No more gog for me.

Fallout Tactics

Fantastic game but crashes :(

Gog version of Fallout Tactics crashes which is horrible if you use ironman mode cause you lose your game and it's not your fault. Steam version is stable, but ironically it looks better on Gog. I recommend get Steam version of Fallout Tactics if you don't want crashes. The actual game is one of the best squad based games ever made. Very interesting missions and character level-ups give you many options for skills and perks. And there are way more guns in the game than you can get around to using. Some guns are low on ammo like the Garand rifle so you can't use them so just sell them. You can specialize some party members in either regular guns or energy guns and also heavy weapons and grenades. Voices in the game are some of the best ever in a game like the Full Metal Jacket drill sergeant is the BOS general in the game. The orcs have brutal, sadistic voices of power and inescapable doom.

Empire Earth 2 Gold Edition

Bug prevents Empire Earth2 from running

First it refused to download cause Galaxy can't handle it, so I did a manual download and it installed. Then the next big problem: the game says minimized after you start it. How do you play a game that stays minimized? Alt tab or anything else never works, only a hard exit using crl alt delete gets rid of it. A google search shows that everyone is having this problem with Empire Earth 2. The game really is ancient so it is very strongly advised that you don't waste time, money or frustration on it. You can get a new RTS game that looks and runs modern style like Sudden Strike 4 and maybe even Men of War, and both of these games are bug-free and run perfect.

Cold Waters

freezes constantly

Cold Waters started freezing over & over even in the menu at start with a windows popup asking me if I wanted to stop the program from running cause it wasn't responding. I finally got the tutorial going but it was pure torture with constant freezing and hotkeys don't work. I have new 2019 games on Steam that all work fine with no freezing or crashes so this is weird cause my computer is good. GOG doesn't give refunds like on Steam so I lost my money on a bad game. I learned the hard way to stick to only buying games on Steam and avoid small indie games like this that have a high chance of not working.
