Sword Legacy Omen

Short, low-budget, underpromising, bland

I would strictly avoid this. The art you see in the images is the only art you'll ever see in this game, and they plaster it as much as possible to try and cover the fact it's the only art they have. Animations and models are bad, voice lines are present only between levels, gameplay never really picks up, story is short and really bland, characters are as stereotypical as ever conceivable and world mechanics are barely significant. The "push people around" mechanic they flaunt does not work as intended in most cases and a lot of railings are placed to prevent you from having fun throwing people out of the map most of the time. AI is stupid as dirt and cannot figure out how to push or break any obstacle you can put up. They mostly walk on a straight line or stand still (if ranged), walk on fire most of the time and prioritize targets they cannot reach. They get some skills that look like the ones you get, except those look like they are not affected by the same rules. One such example is their rogue's "invisibility", which instead of letting them walk invisible it makes them appear behind you the next turn no matter how unreachable you are and stab you for free. Level design is nonsensical. On every level there is only one path to progress and a sequence of "ambushes". Ambushes are clearly announced by the presence of exploding barrels and they spawn enemies from thin air all around you, even where them appearing makes no sense. There is no way to have tactical placement before the fight. This is amateurish and disappointing. Try to avoid this game. Gets a 2 for actually working and not actually horrible.

ELDERBORN

It's short, it's low-budget, it's good

Game is really short (2 big levels + epilogue), platforming is wonky and story is nonexistent but it still delivers a really good frenetic gameplay with well made enemies and map design. You will encounter some odd textures and stretched polygons now and then but i cannot really complain. The quality is still high enough to make the game enjoyable. I would just like to see more of these games because there are never enough.

Hedon Bloodrite

A hidden gem

I did not think it was possible to get this... IMMERSED... in a DOOM engine game. This game is great. I expected it to be a throwback to some boomer stuff but it is much more. You can see in every level that it is crafted with love. It draws you in and does not hold your hand. Things are easy to figure out and yet you get no noisy journal, no quest markers. It rewards your exploration and your skill by letting you hold consumable powerups and weapons through the levels. Gameplay is great. Every attack is telegraphed and can be dodged, many enemies have multiple attacks and every weapon has different attacks for different situations and enemies. The soundtrack is awesome, I thought it was straight out of Unreal and I was correct: Alex Brandon is one of the authors. Everything is explained and nothing feels out of place, even the enemies spawning in your face. The only strange thing is that yourself and every Orc, Goblin or Elf you see is a angel faced half-naked girl.

We are the Dwarves

A pretty bad try on a pretty good idea

Got it for 1$, and it was decent for that. Stay away from its 20$ price! Barely functional, this game is an incomplete mess of wasted potential. Frequent audio issues, pathfinding issues, horrible voice acting, abrupt game overs and soundless cutscenes will accompany your experience of guiding your 3 space-dwarves through challenges that range from "pretty easy" to "frustrating". You can see they tried though: every space dwarf has its array of skills that make this game's concept of gameplay somewhat similar to Dawn of War II, with a twist on knocking enemies off ledges. Too bad for the rest of the game...
