Milkmaid of the Milky Way

Great modern point n click!

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a fun and short point n click adventure, giving you exactly what it promises. You play as Ruth, a milkmaid whose cows gets abducted by aliens. Determined to save your cows, you end up on an alien spacecraft. As you continue to explore, the story unfolds. It's well-written and keeps you interested in wanting to see the conclusion. The gameplay is simple point n click, you pick up items and you interact with the environment. But more isn't needed for this game, it does perfectly what it's supposed to. It's a good modern title in the genre, not being too edgy or too illogical with its puzzles. I recommend this game for both hardcore fans and newcomers to the point n click genre. I'm also definitely interested in trying other the developer's latest title.

Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet

Great story but the game itself is not

Shadow of the Comet has a great story and atmosphere to it, but unfortunately that's where the good things with it stop. You play as Parker, sent to check out Halley's Comet in a small New England town and to investigate claims of what occured there 75 years earlier. Instead you uncover something more dark and sinister in the perfect fashion of H.P. Lovecraft. The gameplay is right out bad, even compared to other point n click games at its time. I don't know if the CD version made it worse, but controls are unresponsive and hard to figure out. The writing is... mostly serious but oddly comedic at times. The voice acting might not be the best, but it was also the early 90s so it can be excused. I don't recommend this game unless you're a hardcore Lovecraft fan or a point n click veteran. Definitely not something for newcomers of the genre.

Machinarium Collector's Edition

A modern point n click classic

Machinarium is a cool-looking point n click adventure, by the devs that made the Samarost games. You play as a robot aiming to figure out why he got exiled out of the city. You meet bad guys, good guys and everything in the between on your journey. The gameplay is pretty standard with various puzzles, item hunting and even some mini games (some harders than others!). While some item puzzles can be tricky or not make too much sense, they are usually straight forward and there aren't really any dead ends. The art design is very unique, and different from the Samorost series, this looks more like a family friendly version of HH Geiger's artwork. The soundtrack is pretty good and fits in where it should. This game continues the Amanita tradition of not having any voice acting, instead telling things through the environment, odd sounds and speak bubbles with drawn objects in them. I definitely recommend this as a point n click game for both fans of the genre and beginners. I'm honestly surprised this game never got a sequel, but I'm excited to play more titles from the developers' catalogue of games!

Samorost 2

Great sequel!

Samorost 2 is a good follow-up to the first game. It continues the series' surreal environments with its interesting puzzles, unique art design och relaxing soundtrack. You once again play as the Czech cartoon guy, but this time your dog is kidnapped by aliens! The game is a bit longer than the first one, with various environments and puzzles. Despite lack of text or anything besides visual clues, you can follow a story as you progress. Excited for what Samorost 3 has to bring, as well as the rest of the games from the developers!

Samorost 1

Short but sweet!

Samorost is a short but a fun surreal point n click adventure. Originally a flash game, I am glad that the developers decided to remaster it and bring it to Steam. You play as a little guy who looks like he straight out of a 1960s Czech cartoon (looking at you Bob and Bobek!) who is saving his home planet from an impending doom. The gameplay is simple. You click around for various puzzles, some which are timing-based. Excited to play more of Samorost series and other games from the developers!

The Adventures of Willy Beamish

A bit aged, but fun nonetheless

The Adventures of Willy Beamish is a classic Sierra-like point n click adventure from Dynamix, while it doesn't hold particularly well towards its LucasArts-eqaulents it's not a bad game. It stars 9-year old Willy Beamish, who is spending his summer holiday with his friends, trying to get his frog to win a frog jumping competition. At the same time a big conspiracy is going on, and Willy's dad gets entangled into it. Time to save dad and the city! Gameplay is your classic Sierra-style point n click. You have an inventory where you can interact and combine items. The puzzles are pretty okay, but there are a lot of timing puzzles which also means a lot of game over screens. Make sure to save often! Not sure if you can softlock yourself, but probably. The artwork is cartoon-ish, which makes it look good in cutscenes but messy when actually playing. It's sometimes hard to tell where to click or what you even can interact with. Soundtrack is pretty good and up-beat, and while the voice-acting might not be the best it's pretty neat that it's actually there! This game is probably for hardcore point n click fans or people with nostalgia for it, not really something I'd recommend for beginners. It has a certain 90s charm to it, but that fades pretty quickly. Would be fun to see a reboot of this game though!

The Whispered World: Special Edition

Maybe not the best but a classic

The Whispered World sets you onto a big adventure in a fantasy world, it's a classic point n click game with an interesting art style and majestic soundtrack. You play as Sadwick, a clown at the family circus, who is chosen to... uhh let's say save the world. He's a bit of an annoying character, but he does grow on you! With you, you have your best friend and sidekick Spot - he is a caterpillar. Along the four chapters you'll meet various characters, all unique in their own way. The gameplay is pretty standard for a point n click, there's mini game puzzles and fetching of items which you can then combine. However necessarily not a bad thing, as the focus here isn't on the gameplay but on the world and the story. Definitely recommending this epic saga, it truly feels like you travel through these lands as you play the game - not just moving from point A to B. I'm excited to see what the sequel has to offer!

Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery

Such a good little piece of art

Behind the Frame is a puzzle game where you play as Amber, an art student, who is working on an art piece to submit for an exhibition in New York. The gameplay is mostly point n click, however the painting mechanic is both relaxing and fun to play around with. The soundtrack is calm and fitting, and the main point of this game is definitely the beautiful animations that play as cutscenes. They truly look like they belong in an animated series or movie. The story is cute, the main character is a bit funny at times. However as you play through the game you find the real themes of it.... also make sure not to miss the DLC campaign! It adds to the storyline in so many ways! Be ready to take out a box of tissues... I definitely recommenad this game and I would love to see more games from this Taiwanese indie developer!

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

An aged classic!

Fallout 3 was the first title I bought myself that had an 18+/M-rating, before that I had either been buying The Sims expansions or getting old hand second hand titles (Tomb Raider II, Fallout 1, The Simpsons Hit n Run, etc.). Thus it is with great nostalgia I look back on this game. I recently started a final replay of the game, to play it with a more recent mindset. And what a game huh? Leaving the Vault for Springvale is still one of my most iconic gaming moments to this day. Together with the DLCs, I'd say that Fallout 3 is still, despite being a bit rough on the edges in the Gamebryo engine, a game that holds up. The story is simple, good vs evil, but exploring the Capital Wasteland is not only fun but genuinly interesting at times. Coming to the DLCs; Point Outlook and The Pitt are clearly the better ones. Anchorage is a fun concept, Broken Steel is good if you want more out of the game and uhhh Mothership Zeta? We're not gonna talk about that, in fact we're not gonna talk about Mothership Zeta at all! In conclusion; Fallout 3 is perhaps an aged classic but if you still want to relive the reboot of the Fallout series, go ahead.
