Bloodrayne: Betrayal (Legacy)

Nothing to see here

The aesthetics are decent but everything else is lacking. Generic level design; Awfully stiff controls; Frustrating (NOT challenging), that is, platforming elements require pulling off certain key combination (such as the back-flip) which you won't be able to reproduce consistently since the controls are so awkward and unresponsive. (both with keyboard and Xbox controller) Repetitive in every way; No story. I tried to finish it for the sake of completion but it's really not worth the effort, time or frustration.

Spare yourself the pain.

There's really nothing beyond the eye candy. Well, there's the appalling dialogue which is so puerile and cringeworthy you'll wish you skipped every line. Unfortunately, the story is also uninspiring and the character progression is extremely poor. The combat is OK and some abilities have interesting mechanics, however your tactical choices are limited by the fact you can only equip 2 abilities at a time on each character, and the fact that there's limited pause time. Ultimately the gameplay boils down to fully exploring levels to collect all loot; then selling all loot back at the town in order to buy epic ingredients; and finally figuring out which epic gear should you craft to allow you to just auto-attack enemies to victory and occasionally unleash all your abilities upon them. For the most part, despite looking great aesthetically, the levels are bland and repetitive with the exception of 3 or 4 that had puzzle mechanics or mini quests, something the game desperately needed more of. Personally the only way to make this game "interesting" is to raise the difficulty level to Brutal or Legendary, so at least it will present some challenge. Unfortunately, you'll still breeze through 90% of the game. The remaining 10% consist of large groups of special enemies each one of them being capable of killing your party members with a single ability. (this can be a nuisance if you don't have an SSD. Be prepared for 30+ seconds loading time every time you die) Ironically, all boss fights (except perhaps the last 2) were pathetic and lasted about 3 seconds even on Legendary. That said, this game is only bearable if played on very short bursts, very sporadically, and at max difficulty. As of Patch #4 (08-25-2015) I still found a number of bugs and game crashes. For instance, if you quicksave on top of any kind of stairs or platforms, you'll be stuck under them upon loading. Also loading save files sometimes makes groups on enemies disappear.
