The concept is unique but the execution could have been a lot better.
You launch the game and it immediately ask for a serial key. Having installed and launched this game from Gog Galaxy client my reaction was "What serial key?" I checked the extras section, nothing. I checked the installation folder, nothing. I went to gog.com, went to my library, found this game, clicked more, found serial keys option, clicked it, only for it to tell me that the motherfucking serial keys have expired!!! Only after that I've noticed on the bottom a little message from gog saying that "the servers for this game is dead and here's a working serial key." Why should anyone have to go through this much bullshit?
The game has charm and personality but the game is clunkity clunkity clunky. The controls are awkward, the puzzles are nonsense, the plot is just meandering and not particularly striking. Despite the awkwardness the game is easy, some might even say too easy but if it wasn't the bad controls and nonsense logic would have made this a frustrating experience so I'm not counting that as a negative. Overall it's okay, better than a lot of early adventure games but that's not saying much. In its own merit I wouldn't say it's a must play.
Still Life didn't need a sequal, especially one that comes after 4 years and awkwardly tries to both complete the story of the first game and tell a new story. The new story is pretty garbage too. This might as well been the Saw: The Movie: The Game. The amazing pacing in the first game is nowhere to be found. The puzzle mechanics are clunky and repetitive. Limited inventory system doesn't add anything, it just means backtracking in the later levels. What's funny is this game lasts as long as the first Still Life, about 10 hours, but it feels so much longer. By the end I wouldn't blame you if you just quit instead of finishing it. It just drags on and on.
The pacing in this game is so good I felt amazing all the way to the end.
This game has bad physics and bad controls. Bad physics can be funny. Bad controls are never funny. Bad controls are just bad.
This is not a horror game. It also has no survival elements in it so I don't what that top review is even on about. It's an adventure game where you play a 2 year old. The environments are imaginitve but the gameplay gets repetitive fast, the controls are start to annoy you. You can only fall and start crawling so many times before you say enough of that now. The dragging controls are also awkward, they don't work the way you expect them half the time so you just end up flailing you mouse. It's a good thing this game only last 2 hours because it wears out it's welcome fast. One thing I am sure about is I will never play it again because it has 0 replay value. The story is incredibly predictiable so much so that I guessed the ending 15 minutes in yet the game still makes a point about how much of a twist this is. Got to be honest, that was kind of pathetic. But it's still a nice quick experience. I wouldn't (and didn't) pay full price for it. It's not worth $17 no way.
I already have this game along with the other Fallout games but because the games were removed from sale and added back again sometime ago, the system shows as if I don't have these games on my library ("owned" sign doesn't appear). So be careful when you are buying them, check your library first, you might already have them.
