I can't remember exactly when I last played a demo of anything but I do appreciate the chance given here. I haven't played the original but this demo shows a lot of promise. I really liked the atmosphere and the graphical design. Even though some elements are somewhat clunky such as the UI or the melee combat, I feel it added to the experience. A save feature would have been nice since I explored for around 45 minutes and then the game crashed on me. Still, it's an alpha build, so it's understandable. I'm looking forward to the final release!
Gato Roboto is an excellent and sweet Metroidvania game. The setting, the story, and how the plot unfolds is nothing short of ridiculous: I mean, you are a cat in a mech-suit that has to save its owner who happens to be a space-travelling soldier. Everything is here that makes a Metroidvania great: tight controls, atmospheric levels and music, and lots of secrets; not to mention the charm that was clearly dialed to 1000. The game may be short but it's a time well spent and it has replay value as well. Gato Roboto is easily a must-play for the fans of this genre and I am wholeheartedly looking forward to the sequel!
I feel like an idiot for not getting this game before. I saw the good reviews and decided to wait but man, after two playthroughs, waiting turned out to be a mistake. Project Warlock is awesome and it is a blast to play. The gunplay is good, the music is badass and atmospheric, and the level and monster variety is fantastic. It pays homage to the first person shooters of old but in the right ways. Gun variety is also excellent: almost all of them pack a good punch, especially after some upgrades! Not many games have me immediately start a new game after finishing my first playthrough, but this one did. It easily gives you that "just one more level" feeling. The gameplay flows really well but keep in mind, this game is a mix of Wolfenstein and Doom, with an emphasis on the former. Do try out the demo but if you like what see, Project Warlock is a must-play!
Just finished the game and I have to say, it surprisingly held up well. It really is an action adventure game: think of it as a great mix between fast PC-style shooting and console-inspired level design. Not only the gunplay is great but you really have to explore the levels in order to collect everything. Each of the maps are memorable and well-designed and it must have taken lot of work to pull this off on the N64. Regardless of the above, the asking price is too high, even for a high-quality remaster. Turok is awesome, no doubt, but try to grab it once it goes on a sale.
Return of the Obra Dinn is one of the most immersive adventure games I have ever played. Everything is spot on and immensely fine-tuned - the graphics, the music, the sound effects and the gameplay. There is nothing quite like it and I have never thought that I am going to enjoy piecing together the fates of the sixty crew members this much. I am seriously considering buying the game on Steam for a second playthrough. Sure, the mystery might not feel that fresh for a second time but Obra Dinn's atmosphere is something that I rarely experience in the world of video games. In this day and age, Lucas Pope deserves every bit of support we can give him! If you enjoy detective and mystery games, you simply have to give this one a try!
Full Throttle is a point-and-click adventure game classic and even if you don't consider yourself a fan of the genre, you should absolutely give it a try. The story, characters and dialogue are all superbly written and there will be times when you will definitely laugh out loud. The voice acting is excellent and it was a surprise to learn that even the legendary Mark Hamill has had many roles in it. Overall, Full Throttle has a lot of humour and visual charm in its veins. This is nothing new from Tim Schafer but I can imagine how fresh the whole game must have felt back in the day. I am not usually fond of point-and-click adventure games simply because I find some of the puzzles somewhat outside of my usual logic and thinking. (Of course, maybe that's the point, who knows!) Thankfully, the game doesn't have many of these so it is a great experience to start with if you are looking forward to getting into this genre. For these reasons, Full Throttle Remastered easily earns my recommendation even at full price.
Shovel Knight is a must-have game for any fans of the platformer genre. Even though I was not familiar with the classic NES platformers (I was too small at the time to play those games), I had a blast on my first playthrough. The levels are varied, the music is memorable, and the challenge is fair. I especially liked how its story was told: while not the most complex of stories, the storytelling was powerful, and most importantly, it happened hand-in-hand with the gameplay. I cannot recommend this game enough, and soon I will be starting my second playthrough. What are you waiting for?
I'm inclined to say "10/10 would dig again" because the gameplay is addicting and it pretty much had me going until the end in only just one sitting. The digging, tool-upgrading is really satisfying and new elements are added to the gameplay at an excellent pace. The only problem is that the game is too short. I beat it in 4-5 hours, and while it was a very enjoyable experience, it could have easily used more content. After the final boss battle, I expected it to resume for a bit longer, but sadly, it didn't. Overall, it is an easy recommendation, and plus kudos for the Hungarian translation!
