Not Limbo (in spite of what people say)

The similarities to Limbo are just superficial. In the end, it is a mix of 2D walking simulator, rudimentary physics playground and fighting game with next to no puzzles. Even if you know what you are supposed to do, it is a tedious chore and you can fail (or win) out of sheer (bad) luck. What irks me the most are the unavoidable fights, especially the final boss which is just tedious and not fun at all. Having to face that monster head one without a possibility to really use the environment against him is bad design in this kind of game. There are long passages where nothing happens to artificially make the game a bit longer and it is still very short. The good things about this game are the graphics, the audio designs, technical stability (judging by the Linux port) and the fact, that you can use any game-pad out of the box without having to deal with modern xinput restrictions. I'd give it 4/10 if you only pay a few bucks in a sale, not worth full price imho.

The Labyrinth of Time

Good game with fatal flaws.

In spite of the nice graphics for the time and the fast game-play, it has weird places to find crucial items and it also has dead ends. At least you can get to the same point fast by restarting since there are no movement animations and you can get through speeding. The game wasn't really stable and crashed multiple times when saving (Linux). I'd give it a 4/10. If it would be more stable, had no dead ends and the lantern wouldn't be where it is, it would probably get a 7/10. The way it is now, it's just not really fun without a walk-through.

Abysmal game design from start to finish

It is one of the worst games I have ever played and I guess the only reason why that became a classic is, that it had pre-rendered SVGA graphics and FMV in 1993 (made in 1992). Unfortunately, you can't skip any of it and wait most of the time for very slow animations to finish. Sometimes you don't just have to solve a puzzle for the next door to open but also have to visit a certain room elsewhere afterwards and then go back. The design of the puzzles and overall game design is absolutely terrible. Don't be fooled by nostalgia, it is really not good.
