This is a completly different game to serious sam - I know. The problem for me is that the battles are so long. In the - I guess last mission - the "large enemies" have a shield mode where you have to kill the guards that protect his life bar (like most large boss like enimies). It slows down the movement speed or the momentum of completing / getting to the end from 100% to 0. The later weapons are getting better. Katana, Chainsaw and Shotgun are the best imo but everything especially the handgun are feeling weak af. Maybe it is because the game or gun handling is more tuned for consoles?, but everything feels strange to me. I am not saying the game is bad but this feels like a Metroid-vania game stretched into 3D and that is not my type of game. I love Doom, (Fear), Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Serious Sam... I would compare the health of the enemies to Wolfenstein enemies / or half life 1 grunts with at least 3 times the hp points and 2 stages until they die. So the GAME is great but only objectivly and it ripps my i5 3550 with 3,9Ghz @4/4 Cores with GTX970. Mainly the CPU gets rekt and this game uses 2D backgrounds xD
First off all I own the original uncut version of Doom3 on CD, so I dont own the Doom3 BFG. Infos to run most ID Tech Games are down at the end. The original Doom3 was made for pc and can run Mods. I dont remember many graphical differences but one of them is the texture qualitiy. This game is based on the xbox version ported to the 360 and then to pc. Some parts of the BFG version wont be ideal. I red in the GOG reviews that the lighting engine got worse. Mods are not easy to install on the BFG. Guess the texture mods are the easiest, because it is just replacing... About the game: You are a marine send to Mars to be a guard. With you on board of the ship that flew you to Mars were 2 important persons that representatives of a governmental organisation or something like that.... After some things hell breaks out..... The first part of the game is great and everything feels new. Later in the 2/3 or 2/4 the game gets a little bit dull. The start of the game is in the main facillity with living quarters... later you mainly see working areas. My problem with it is the same as in Half Life 1 -> The world is a little bit too compact. I want to see more how they live or lived after everything went wrong. Play simply the mod ''Misery'' and you will know it after playing 10 min. and then restart the playthrought, cause you should know the fast ways to die which makes the fear. I bought it on Steam. I played all oldschool shooters on the market. Serious Sam is my favorite ( Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem etc. ) and I have to say that this game has the best story and level design of all. Doom has big level with bad details. Duke Nukem has better levels but not the same feeling in combat like in Doom. Blood on the other hand has everything what I need and it has so dark atmosphere . Something like System Shock 2.
