Ahh the glory days of single player shooters. Such an amazing series of games, with great characters and story and superbly voice acted as well. If you love cowboys, this is a must have. It's a brutal game with a sad story that you'll remember for ages. I'll tell you what I always tell people to whom I recommend this game: In the first game, you can dual weild revolvers...or....you can have a revolver in one hand and the Bible in the other, and while your shooting people your character recites vengfull quotes from it. Absolutley glorious. As far as faults go...the game clearly has some PC quality issues, since it was made for consoles, just like most games of that era. But that's about it. It's a great time. I recommend all of them except maybe the one that's set in modern times...that one was a bit of a miss, just because the setting was so important for the series.
In 2 words: Absolutely Phenomenal. One of the best Jrpg's and overall games I've ever played. It has almost everything, the only things it's missing is better graphics (I don't mind the pixel graphics, but nowadays we have elitists left and right) and voice acting (same as before...people think that if you have to read that's somehow inferior to VA, which is moronic). But yeah, other then that there is really not much to say...the game is as near perfect as possible. It has great music, artstyle, sound and story...but the cherry on the cake is the combat system. My god, it's SOOOO good. Especially since the game doesn't use the outdated lvlup system, but instead rewards you when you do something notable, like beating a boss/miniboss. It's also has a massive number of characters and skills at your disposal, all of them interesting and fun But maybe above all else...it's just a fantastic ADVENTURE...that makes you feel like a kid again...poking at that inner-explorer all gamers have, where you just wanna explore one more dungeon/quest. As you can see it took me over 83 hours to beat the game and I still have the hidden boss left to fight (which will take quite a few more). If you like games, buy this, it's incredible. If you like (j)Rpg's ...well you're probably already playing...haha. I hear this game was 7 years in the making, by a very small team...and it shows. The amount of love in it is astounding and it's truly something to be celebrated. Hope to see more one day. Well done!
This game requires some major rethinking of game mechanics. The idea of the combat is very interesting: you're blind so you have to rely on your other senses to defeat enemies. But the execution? Horrible... all you do is press a "Sense" that pops up on an enemy once you hit him enough times in a short span...and then? you get a QTE...I'm not a hater of QTEs like other people...but as a main mechanic of the combat? hell no, its just bad. The graphics and store are nice, from what I've seen, but the combat is just bad in it's current state and many people on steam are saying that it only gets worse from here. Who knows if that's true, but the game lost me after just 2 levels. The MAJOR problem of why I just quit? Simple. It has a crappy "souls-like" stamina system(you know the very punishing for no reason, attack twice and dodge away type of crap)...FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. So remember how I said you need to hit enemies x times in a short span? Yeah no...because your stamina is not enough to both dodge/block and attack that many times...So yeah that just made me uninstall. Hopefully the dev does some major adjustments because I see a good game hidden under the TEDIOUS combat.
Idk what's happening with the other reviews, they seem drunker then the pirates in the game...either that or they're old AF and are COMPLETLEY irrelevant. This game is GREAT. It is very similar to Sid Meiers Pirates, as in its a lot more arcade-y, top down shooter then realistic sim. IT doesn't have a timeless art style like that one so its missing it's charm but it does have everything else going for it. -Graphics- are poor...this is a phone game as well (idk which is the original and which is the port) so yeah, it's pretty ugh. -Sound- is good and also it has some nice music to boot that really lifts the combat/exploration to a new level, as music should. -Combat- is super fun. Typical arcade pirate combat with a lot of turning and firing, but also the game has magic in it, so you have a TON of spells you can equip to your ship for defensive/offensive playstyles. Other then that you have a massive amount of ammo types and you can equip your ship with armor/sails/cannons with different bonuses. Game also has a very simple but quite fun boarding mechanic (and also ground combat on islands). You can move freely (no QTE's thank god) use your sword, gun and block, but at least it's there and it's fun...unlike the new ubisoft pirate game that's coming out without a boarding mechanic...in 2022 ...from a triple a studio?! just wow. -Quests/story-the game has a MASSIVE amount of quests to do, which I love, because just fighting for no reason always bores me. You have a lot of factions, each of them with different goals (trading/combat etc) and they each have like a dozen quests depending on your reputation with them and they are repeatable. And besides those there are quests that appear as you explore...like hunting down sea monsters, yeah those are a thing. So yeah, overall the game is great fun, but just know what to expect: it's a very repetitive game, just like any open-world pirate games, it's simple, but for 10 bucks on sale, with dlc, its DEFINITELY worth it.
Such a phenomenal game. The amount of great writing and lore in this game is insane, but be prepared for a lot of reading if you want to get into it; the game even has an encyclopedia about all of it, because it uses many self-invented words and places. Combat is similar to the bioware games from back when they were a thing, so if you like the Real time with pause combat you'll be set here. Everything in this game is just pure quality: amazing story and lore, great combat with a varied party and combo based abilities, great music and nice artstyle and also fantastic voice acting to tie it all together. While it might be very linear and while it doesn't have 100 hours of content, like I said, the quality of everything more then makes up for it. HIGHLY recommended.
The people giving this 5 stars are the people who still believe that assassins creed is still a good game. Don't believe these fools. This game is EXACTLY like any Ubi game (coz all of them are the same at this point): bland, boring and mindless open world collect-a-thon. I mean just look at the in game map, I'm surprised Ubi hasn't sued these guys for copying their patented "map-filled-with-usless-s**t" design. I'll say it now so we can get it out of the way: the combat and monster variety/design is good, it's the only thing far better then any open world game (tho the gameplay is 90% ranged so it gets very repetitive). But that's where this stops. At least, even in AC games, you have a cool world to look at, not here. The world is boring, the characters are soulless, the voice acting is weak, but not as weak as the writing/story, and the facial animations are on par with ME Andromeda (but everyone seems to just overlook that). I would give this 3 stars, but I'm one of the poor saps who thought such a mighty console exclusive will not arrive BROKEN on day 1 on PC, so I had to beta test this trash until it was fixed, months later. At least now i know for sure that all console exclusives are just like this...just another pathetic copy-paste game with a shiny "triple A" coat of paint, not worth your time or money.
So I've played about 3 hours (campaign only). I enjoyed quite a bit, buuut there are problems, sadly. I'm someone who's willing to give a small indie studio a chance to improve after launch, so I might be way more forgiving then most people are, but I will focus entirely on the bad parts here, so that hopefully the devs know what to fix. 1. If you watch the cut-scenes/trailers etc, something doesn't make sense. The mechs move slowly like lumbering beasts are their rate of fire is also low, but then you go into the game and (all) the units move and shoot WAY too fast, ESPECIALLY the mechs. The devs promised a more methodical slow RTS, that doesn't reward blobbing. This is not the case and I think this will kill the game if it isn't balanced/fixed, because it just makes the game feel like a run of mill RTS with no depth. 2. Cover is weird. It works and the units auto-vault over cover which is way better then COH, BUT...after cover is destroyed...that's it...you don't have it anymore, ever. Unlike COH there is no medium/heavy cover and you can't take cover in artillery holes, or behind mechs etc, so after a while it's just a blob fest of infantry/mechs just shooting each other in the open. 3. There is no heavy armor in this game. Any unit can destroy any other unit or building. So you can just shoot a mech with a bunch of normal infantry and take it down. They really dropped the ball here again. Why not have more units that can be upgraded with antitank sidegrades? What I'm trying to say is THE MECHS DON'T FEEL GOOD/SPECIAL. In COH when you get a Tiger Tank...that thing is just a sight to behold, here they just feel like a slightly bigger infantry unit. Also the sound's they make a kinda lackluster, no engine sounds, no crazy metal on metal screeching when they fight each other. They should have focused on them a lot more. I really hope they stick to it and fix these, because the potential is very high for this game.
Not much to say about it really, but more importantly not much to complain about either. It's a turn based game, on a grid, in which you position your characters and use skills (that work like cards in a card-game) and then you roll dice to get extra effects( anything from more damage all the way to extra turns). The game is well made and fun to play and doesn't overstay its welcome and I personally found it to be very well balanced, considering it relies on RNG quite a bit, and that’s no easy task. The game also tells a short story about kids living in a hellhole of a city and need to escape, a story that is very dark considering its main protagonists are kids. Overall if you enjoy TBS and you’re not one of those dummies in the reviews that ALWAYS have to complain about anything to do with RNG and how it’s the work of the devil, this will be a very enjoyable 10-20 hour experience.
MandaloreGaming and SsethTzeentach in the same video? Endorsing the same game? It should be one of Newton's laws that said game can only be amazing! We need more people like them bringing us together in this way, to support good games, especially in these trying times. Big thanks to them. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some dominance to assert, with my Mech-horn.
Graphics-ok, Music/Sound-phenomenal, Gameplay-Great, Story/Lore-Great. The only thing you will see people complain about is the game balance being a bit off lategame. The devs obviously tried to give the players a lot of freedom in how they spec their characters and that resulted in the nerds finding broken builds and then complaining about it. But if you're new to TurnBasedStrategy, or you just play the game just for fun, you will have a great time. Overall a fantastic little gem that shows what good management and a great vision can accomplish. While the budget clearly wasn't there, the talent was and they made a GOOD GAME, something sorely needed in the 40k-game space. Well done. Hopefully someone notices and gives these guys bigger 40k projects. Cheers.
