This is gaming at it's best. Put away your guns, your crosshairs and your JRPGs and pick up this game because it will blow you away. The game has a perfect combination of story, gameplay mechanics, platforming and humor. Especially the humor! This is a quirky, hilarious, creative and perfectly odd game, but it's one of those lost gems which everyone should at least try to experience because this game is what gaming should be about: Creativity, humor and entrainment.
For anyone who hasn't played chess, it's a board game in which you try and corner the other player's king. Now that we have that out of the way... Combat Chess. It's chess... with animations. And the animations are quite amusing as well as the sounds that accompany them. Pieces get cut apart as they are attacked and while they are idle they also move around giving them some life. The computer also provides a good challenge and it even allows you to tweak exact settings on what the computer can do including time it can take before moving and the amount of CPU power given to the computer while it is deciding its move. But after the 6th or 7th game... the animation novelty wears off. You begin to realize that this is just a chess game... and a mediocre chess game at that.
This is a must have for anyone who is remotely interested in an engaging story, complex plot, or just enjoy Role Playing games in general and at less than $6, this is a freaking steal. This RPG reinvented RPGs and it still lives on as one of the best. With unique replays due to differing stats, this game has a TON of replay value and as for challenge, try playing the game with less than a 4 intelligence stat :P. One of the best inclusions in the download is the Fallout Bible, which I enjoyed thoroughly . If you've never played it, this is a must buy. If you have played it well... it's still a must buy!
