Divinity: Original Sin Classic

What means "RPG" to you?

Since this game is highly rated nearly everywhere and often compared to some of the all-time classics of the genre (like Baldur's Gate), I feel myself forced to write my first review here on gog (I've played the Retail-Version on Steam). If someone would ask me: "What do you expect from a good classic party-based cRPG?", my immidiate answer would be: A good and memorable Story, interesting and atmospheric locations where this story takes place and - of course - well-written characters with their own backstories and personalities. All in all, something that I care about while playing and that I will remember still long after playing the game. In case, Divinity: Original Sin lacks all of this. Don't get me wrong: I really like it's old-school-gameplay, the turn-based combat and also the world-exploring, but after 40 hours I stopped playing it because there is nothing else this game has to offer! Of course, not every game can or even should be like Planescape: Torment, but in D:OS nearly every PC and NPC is talking nothing but stupid sh**. In my opinion, the silly kind of humour, that is going through nearly every part of the game, is killing all possible immersion and atmosphere in this game. I am really confused, that as good as nobody seems to give a damn about such a huge flaw in a game, that could've been so good.
