Alone in the Dark

There might be some love for the 92 game

I bought this game because I considered Alone in the Dark as one of the "grand-daddies" of survival horror. Then I played this game and was like "yeah, this is really good". Entering this game with the right mindset is definitely important. It is not quite the modern "ohhhh scary game, gonna get spooked", but more of a Victorian era of horror (kind of like "Frankenstein" or the Cthulhu mythos where playing god reaps it's own punishment). It did deliver and plays it's cards right. The game and the gameplay achieves what I'd expect. If you want to go further and also play the 1992 version of the game you start to see the connections and there seems to be an understanding of the original game to make not just a rehash, but a solid remake. A modern take not on survival horror, but more focused on a descent into madness. I am pleased to have bought the game.

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

A Dialogue drive Adventure Game

At it's core this is an adventure game, focusing on the story and the lore. [Esprit De RPG: Success] The "role playing game" mechanics provide an interesting approach to building a character, but differ from other more combat oriented systems. [Perception: Failure] You should believe me, I have seen it all. [Drama: Success] And the way it is told, mostly through dialogue, instead of rellying on "rubbing items together" makes it more appealing, easier to connect with the characters, who are likeable or at the very least comprehensible. [Authority: Success] You should play it. [Half Light: Failure] Or else ... But you can always build your own opinion by playing the game ... [Volition: Success] ... just don't let it play you.
