Thisi is a good game, not a masterpiece, but a really good game indeed. It's defined an action rpg, but it's a mix between an action rpg and a real rpg. some element is classical of action game such regeneration of mana and health, or the luck of sleeping. But plot is typical of a classic rpg. Some quest are really beautiful and many of them can be solved without fighting. The plot is linear whit few decisions to take.
Arcanum is a real masterpiece between computer Rpg. It's very similar to Fallout in structure (and also at the End), but the other reference for this game is Planescape Torment. Plot and quests are deep. Nothing is like it appears. At the end even the good characters will be tempted to follow the "evil" enemy. Is It's buggy, Fallout and Torment are better from a tecnical point of view. But the game has a special narration and a very original background. A rpg like no others.
Seven Kingdoms II offers a complex strategical experience to the player. It's been one of the first to present rpg elements in a Rts. This elements are not so deep, but our soldiers will grow in every skill present. The economical sistem is not banal and diplomacy is very well developed. Who prefers to get involved into figthing can choose Frythans. There are many human kingdoms with their own specific way to fight. It's possible to play a random campaign that grant surprise from one hand, but with low personality. A game to play and replay.
It's difficult to define “Divine Divinity”; it's just a really good game. The appearance show us a classical action Rpg. We have a bidimensional world in which our hero, alone, with no party, has to reach the final goal defined by the plot. Combat system is similar a “Diablo”, so we could think to a “Diablo style” action rpg. On the contrary we have here a real solid Rpg. There are very much quests and an intriguing plot to follow. Yes there many enemies to challenge, but not all quests require a violent solution. Another very interesting feature is the chance to manipulate very much objects in the world. In this way we have many alternative solutions to follow, and the sensation to be in a real tangible world. The graphic is pleasant with his colors, the 2D design is at his best. Player will be involved in a very interesting story until the end. The control system is user friendly. This game is a gem, don't miss it.
Might and Magic saga is one of the most popular in computer role playing game history and here we have the first six chapters in one great offer. A book would be needed to write a complete review of all games, so this text has to be generic. All Might and Magic games developed the first person perspective as graphic system. So our party goes on in game world in a way similar to fps with the difference (in early games and in particular in the first five chapters of this saga) that the structure of time is turn-based. Our heroes move in a fantasy world with a bit of sci-fi, a typical feature of Might and magic games. Games are full of quests, that follow the classical mood of role playing games old-school. The six chapter deserve more attention. It has divided gamers opinions. Some has considered its graphic too old also for the time pf his publication, but was the first game of the series in which player could move in a dynamic 3D world. Other players have considered it the best game of the series and one of the best computer role playing game, I agree with these ones. The world is really huge and sometimes player feels lost in the enormous map. The quality of rpg is very high. There are many npcs that enrich the plot with solid quests. There is the chance to collect many enchanted weapons. The party move in real time, but there is the chance to change in turn-based system. It’s necessary in order to win battles. Someone says that Might and Magic 6 is a “hack and slash” rpg with a classical style for the tons of enemies the party has to challenge, but its not true, plot is solid and quests are interesting. We have to talk with many npcs distributed in all towns. I think that this game mix the classical plot of role playing game of the series with a great amount of fights. This pack is a must for all rpg fans.
Heroes of Might and Magic III is considered the best game of the series, that represents a must-have for fans of turn based strategy games. The 2D engine reaches his full maturity with colourful and huge maps rich of surprises. The game is divided in three different parts. The strategical map of the world, in which our heroes move in order to reach the final victory; the city map, that represents buildings of every town and that let us recruit new troops and resources; the tactical map, the battle field in which armies clash. The tactical field could be considered a bit simple, but it really gives strategical depth to battles that never are too long. There is also the chance to surrender or escape in order to save our hero in front of a defeat. Heroes are protagonist of the game. They lead great armies which troops strength is influenced by heroes skills. These grow along the game following a role playing game system. The strategical map gives the chance to explore a huge world. This is one of the best features of the game. Every point can give a surprise, positive or negative. Enemy can come out from everywhere and challenge is really tough. Our heroes have the chance to collect many objects that give them some good bonus and there will be also the chance to collect armies along the way. The plot of campaigns of the main game and two expansions is very interesting and not banal, structured in a solid fantasy world. We can also play many singular maps, so this game will remain for much time in our hard disc. Game offers much more features and surprises, but it’s difficult to enumerate here all of them. Fans of strategy games must play Heroes of Might and Macig III, it would be a pity to miss it.
Runaway is a point and click adventure with a classic mood. So there are few surprises: the control system is the classic well known one, very simple to use, that has made the fortune of this genre of game. The player has to collect objects and use them to solve some puzzles. In this way our hero will reach the end of the story. The classic mood is also present in the plot of the game. As the Broken Sword series, two are the protagonist of the game a young man and a young woman that will be involved in a long adventure (but not too long) made of intrigues and surprises. Nothing is as it seem and the player will be involved in an adventure “on the road” in many American settlements. Plot is built also above the contrast between the timid young and (cultured) man, a graduated, and the unscrupulous and mysterious young woman, from this point of view the plot is different from the one of Broken Sword series. From a technical point of view graphic is excellent. Programmers decided to give more challenge with puzzles. The same objects will be useful to solve a puzzle in a scenario in which in a precedent situation it seemed useless. So my advice is to try every solution in order to solve a puzzle, anyhow puzzles are not too difficult and with good reasoning every hard passage can be solved. In my opinion a solid game with a solid plot, not a masterpiece, but an adventure that will involve the player until the end.
Screamer it’s not a game for players who love simulation. It’s strength is based on simplicity and easy gameplay. In this case easy game means fun. It’s difficult to realize a really addictive game with few ingredients and Screamer reaches this goal. With few click every player is ready to start te race. At the same time there are technical choices about every race. Player can choose a car from a list, each of them with different tips, as grip and acceleration. So there is the chance to use the right car in the right track. The player can choose between championship, or a single normal race. And there are also the special modes, in which he can tests his skill against time in three different ways. So the game offers a large range in which to find your way to fun, easy fun but not without depth. A rare mix of simplicity and captivating gameplay.
Gothic II is a great Computer Rpg. The game world is larger than the first episode and programmers had the time to refine the work at the best, so there are meaningless bugs. Our hero has destroyed the barrier that imprisoned him and all his fellows, and now can freely travel through the island of Khorinis. But there is still a great danger that menace non only the island; our hero will have to defeat it. Gothic II expand the world of the first game and refine the concept game that was presented in the first episode. The world is alive, dynamic, and there will be the chance to do all we want. In the game there will be three factions to choose, it's the way to follow a different plot and a different way to play. Controls are more user friendly than the first episode, and from a technical point of view in general this episode is better than the first one, almost perfect. In my opinion the game loose a bit of charme in comparison with the first episode; maybe for the lost of open sky prison concept that were a great invention for the plot. In general the game lacks of lore: there are few books in game, without stories or legends. The expansion add a new map, a new plot, and above all, change some mechanic. In general the expansion give more challenge from an action point of view, so who prefers the gdr side of game could appreciate more the original Gothic II; players who like very much action will prefer “Night of the Raven”. It's necessary to restart the game in order to play the expansion, so my advise is to play before the original Gothic II and than with “Night of the Raven”. A great classic that every player who love computer role playing games should have.
