Tropico 3 was good, but this was great! The tutorial really walks you down the path towards making money. I've been having a blast building out my island. I feel like this is the most accessible Tropico title yet - I could jump in, follow the clues, and start making money almost right away. The game does play much like 3. The buildings look about the same. But the slight enhancements are significant for me. This has been a much more fun game for me to dive into.
I bought the game, and watched plenty of videos to prepare. The environment draws you in, making you believe you're really in the city. The game looks great, and the idea of connecting your cities together in a mega-map is a great one. The tutorial seemed helpful. However, once I started building (which is very fun), I had no idea how to make money. Dissatisfied citizens/council members are constantly demanding new buildings. But the more I built, the faster I lost money. I followed the guidance provided in the UI, but the problems remained. You can start out with a ton of cash, but I'm still not clear on how to balance the budget. The game doesn't actually explain much (like how to use highways), and so I just had to guess about much of it, and restart. With lots of trial and error, I guess I could figure this game out. I know long-time players love it. But with so many other good games out there, I don't need to spend all of those hours figuring out how to overcome this game's needless shortcomings.
I remember playing this game on Game Boy back in the day. This version is much easier, since you can restart at stage 4 with all your lives. You won't get more than a few hours of fun out of this game, and unless you're playing multiplayer, there isn't that much replay value. Still, playing the game was like playing an old arcade game with unlimited quarters. It's fun and nostalgic and over.
You could view this as 2 completely different games, one with 2 hefty mods, or even as 4 somewhat different games. There's just so much here. I think that Civ4, along with Civ2, is the finest exemplar in the franchise. Later games got a little overcomplicated. The theme for the game is one of the best in gaming history, and the game is beautiful throughout. As the game provides many scores of hours of enjoyable gameplay, it's well worth the price tag. The gameplay is intuitive. The game is pretty easy to grasp, but the difficulty settings allow players of all levels to enjoy it.
The game seems like it would be engrossing. However, it doesn't provide you with enough information on how to make money. I read the entire manual, but no matter what option I tried on the very first route, I lost money quickly and had to restart the game. The YouTube videos didn't help much.
This game really gets you into the spirit of Army Men! The campaign seems reasonable. The tech tree is very simple, but it hasn't been that limiting so far. With the base game, you can't play a skirmish directly against the AI, but with a basic mod you can have a fun, simple, challenging match against the computer. It's great to see how they balanced simplicity with challenge and creativity.
I've played this game since it was in demo. This is a worthy version, and my friends and family sometimes play on LAN. The graphics aren't great, but they're fun and functional. The difficulty settings and massive campaign options mean its straightforward to learn and win this game. I play this version instead of the Steam one; this one works better on multiplayer.
I never played the Windows 95 version, so I don't know the difference. I just know this is similar to the SNES SimCity. It's reasonably easy to start making money and build a massive city. Of course, there are some funky issues, like exploding power plants and unsolvable traffic snarls. Still, the game and its music are fun.
