Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut

MISSED!

That pretty much sums up the game. How a band of well trained mercenaries can aim so poorly i will never know (even when the enemy is right beside them XD). The game is still fun though, if a bit bugged and flawed (my deckers special skill just disappearing might be the worst of them). If you liked the old X-Com games or similar styled games you will enjoy this as well. The writing is pretty good also.

Syberia

Doesn't work properly...

Can't say much about the game since it doesn't work. I'm very disappointed with GOG it this stage. Considering what this platform was about from the beginning it has gone downhill badly. I basically have trouble running ALL old games by now. Not a single one of them seem to be properly optimized/patched for new pcs. And yes i have tried your "solutions" and they do not work. It's just not good enough that you sell games that can't run on a new pc and that you don't even fix the problems. It shouldn't be up to me to find solutions. But almost everytime i have to google for hours OR download 3rd party software to get things to run (and i largely prefer not to do that tbh). Get better.

Risen

Not for me

I didn't last long in this one. After 2 hours of play i was running round in circles, had no clue what to do and no one wanted to talk to me. When they did they told me to do random stuff that i got no direction to, had no clue where was and couldn't see on a map either. Also people would constantly send me in a direction where i couldn't do what they told me. I know some people love these games, but i get bored out of my wit, if i have to wander around aimlessly trying to figure out what the fudge to do. And then there is the combat... that was just horrible. The world, characters and story did absolutely nothing to draw me in either. I'm sure there is a decent game in there somewhere, but it is just not for my taste.

Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth

For everyone who likes a great story

I was so positively surprised at this game. The theme and setting are not something i would normally go for, but i am happy i did! The art style is beautiful and suits the story very well. The voice acting is great and it is a both a grand and a small tale at the same time. There a several surprises and twists along the way and you truly get to care for the characters. With all that being said you need to know, that this is first and foremost an interactive story. The only "gameplay" is a few QT events and then of course you get to choose dialogue options. But if this is something for you, i fully recommend that you experience this tale.

Anachronox

Nice surprise

This is a highly original and entertaining adventure. Good story, great characters and quite good voice acting for such an old game. You never truly know what to expect next in this game which keeps you interested almost all the way through. It drags on slightly towards the end though. The game is by no means perfect and is what you might call an unpolished gem. But it is definitely worth a playthrough if you like a sci-fi themed rpg adventure with a witty dialogue.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Just not for me i guess

I really tried to give these games a chance, but i can not understand what people see in them. Once again we are dealing with bad controls (the prince tends to do whatever he pleases rather than what you try to get him to do, again because inputs depends on camera angle). The camera is once again absolutely horrible. It is like it's trying to work against you and show the scenes from the worst possible angle it can find. One positive is that combat is slightly better than in SoT. Only slightly though. Then there is the checkpoint/fountain saves. I'll never not hate random save points that force you to do a whole sequence again if you die. It is so mindnumbingly boring. It is not like i had trouble with the previous 10 minutes of gameplay. I already did that. Why the f... make me do it again?

Prince of Persia®: The Sands of Time

Overrated i'm afraid

Well i can't say what i would have thought of the game back when it came out, but the Sands of Time haven't stood the test of time. The game is incredibly frustrating to play, first and foremost because of the horrible camera movement. Often you just can't see what you need to see and just have to hope for the best. Other times you will see a wall or a ceiling in the middle of a battle. Controls in general are not very good either as it can be difficult to tell what the game thinks is left/right and up/down. It changes constantly as you climb around and the camera angle changes all the time. I can't say i enjoy the combat either but that is more of a personal opinion i guess.

The Suffering

Bugs and crashes

I've been buying a few old games of late, this being one of them. And they are almost unplayable at times. There are constant bugs and crashes throughout. Sure there is plenty of suggestions for solutions, but shouldn't these games be playable when we buy them? Instead of "delete this file", "install this patch" etc. And everytime i do it i can play for another 45 minutes before running into a new problem. I cannot recommend buying this game for a new pc, it is barely playable and shouldn't be sold in this state.

Red Faction

Can only be played with patch

The game itself is decent fun considering how old it is. I can understand to a certain degree why people like it. One thing has to be said though. In its current state, the game can only be played with the Dash Faction patch, which is an unofficial patch. At some point you will meet at least one gamebreaking bug if you don't install it (exploding sub anyone?). To be honest it is a little sad that fan-made patches has to fix something like that. The game is still being sold after all.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Amazing game for it's time.

This game is an amazing achievement. Not the least considering how old it is and the fact it was made by a then unknow studio on a small budget. To this day it is still worth playing or replaying. The world was unlike anything i've experienced before when i first played. Raw, brutal and uncensored as it should be. The story is great and there is so much to gain from exploring and talking with every character you meet. It is filled with content and fun minigames such as dice playing, fist fighting, drinking contests. And again you never know what the outcome of some of these is untill you try. Admittedly the controls can sometimes feel a little clunky, but once you get used to them it's not really that big of a problem.
