I loved the original KOTOR. It was a fabulous Star Wars game and a good RPG in its own right. Well worth getting. Very slick and impressed on many levels. Pure gold to a Star Wars or sci-fi fan and gave me a feeling of being in the movies or that world. This sequel at launch was therefore much anticipated and the fans were all looking forward to seeing the story continue or more of that world. Sadly the developers could not deliver. What we got was frankly unfinished. The game was rushed out the door & slapped together needing a minimum 6 more months of development It was never patched up to fix its issues as content was cut & crude stitching covered the holes. As you play through (especially if you've just played the very polished KOTOR 1) you'll notice empty feeling areas, lack of polish, parts where they've said "sod it, just stick in what we have & ship it". Playing through now as an adult with more experience in games it's all the more glaring in comparison to it's predcessor. There were attempts over the years at trying to restore missing content, bug fixes, finish quests & stories properly as the developers clearly hoped to do originally, but as far as I know these too were never finished, the task too large to do and the mod teams abandoned the projects. What we got was not what we hoped for. With rose tinted glasses, inexperience & enough wishful thinking you might be able to ignore the glaring issues, but this is by far the inferior product & experience. The unfinished nature will give you a bitter taste towards the end. The bad or sloppy design in the rushed parts of KOTOR 2 compared to KOTOR 1 or the more polished KOTOR 2 areas might not be noticed by some modern gamer as it'll all appear crude by modern standards. At the time it was quite noticable, as was the poorer performance and bugs that caused slow downs/crashes. Consider it almost like a mod instead of a true sequel & you may enjoy it as it is still fun in parts & inexpensive at GOG prices.
