Star Control I & II

Buy it to support the series, but...

Star Control II is is an unusual combination of adventure game, visual novel, resource management, and Asteroid-styled space ship battling that somehow works and creates one of the best games ever made. The world created for this game is deep and interesting, but also has a quirkiness to it and is not afraid to poke fun at some old sci-fi tropes and cliches. The only true flaw with the game is that it isn't always easy to know what to do next, but even then the game gives enough hints to help you figure it out. It's predecessor Star Control 1 is considerably simpler in comparison, but still a darn good game and good for those not looking for an overarching story. Though as great as it is, Star Control II is definitely the main reason to buy this pack. I could not recommend it more... However, I must also point out something: Star Control II became freeware ages ago. The fans have made an excellent port known as The Ur-Quan Masters, it works perfectly on new computers and you can even mod it to have the high quality voice acting from the 3DO version that the DOS version (the one GOG gives) completely lacks. You can also install mods to clean up more of the games problems, since as great this game is it hasn't aged ENTIRELY well. If you get Ur-Quan Masters without buying this version I can perfectly understand, however I recommend buying this anyway to show support for the series. I would also recommend getting Star Control Origins, for though it isn't anywhere near as good as Star Control II it is still a fantastic game and a worthy successor that has been overshadowed by controversy.

The Legend of Kyrandia: Malcolm's Revenge (Book Three)

Very flawed, but very enjoyable

I'm happy to say that the Kyrandia series ended on a high note. Classic point-and-click game goodness, plus the "alignment" system is a very nice addition and the humor is incredible, Malcom himself is the main source of jokes and his wit is on par with Manny and Guybrush. The 3D background graphics are pretty poor, but tolerable given when this game was made. Some of the puzzles are VERY frustrating and slow down the game. HOWEVER, I think everyone is overreacting to them; especially since similarly inane and annoying puzzles plagued the previous Kyrandia games. Still, the middle puzzle that people have been referencing is quite awful, its the only thing keeping me from giving this game a 5 out of 5. While it is far from perfect, I can say with confidence Malcom's Revenge is as good as the previous Kyrandia games (if not better). I'd also like to note that most of the negative reviews for Malcom's Revenge seem to be out of nostalgia for the first two games, I recommend disregarding most reviews 3 stars or less.
